SuperVee 27 N or BL?

Having a bit of a problem deciding which SV 27 to get, the nitro or electric. I know this is a FE forum and opinions will be favored that way, no problem. First of all, I am waiting for the UL 1's to be in stock. No one knows when they will be in. So, for my winters prodject I want to get a SV 27 all set up with upgrades and mods ready for the spring.

I guess the first thing to consider is if anyone in the Massachusetts area have either the Niro or BL version? I rather run with guys who have the same power I guess. Noise is an issue, if I like to run early in the morning at a near by pond, the nitro will be a litle loud. So there is neg for the nitro. I do do have a Cooperpipe for the .18 which might help.

Set up with the nitro might me a little tuff, some tweeking is involved. If I had guys around my area with nitros this would not be an issue too much. As I could get help from them. Battery is quiet and clean. But expensive for a few sets of batteries and a good charger. Nitro, can run all day.

I am sure the speed is about the same. Just looking for some ideas and thoughts in which one to buy. So guys, any thoughts here to help me out

I have never owned a nitro boat, only nitro cars and since the BL motors have come out its nice to be able to run fast without dealing with throttle adjustment messy fuel spills and other stuff. I do miss that beautiful sound and smell though that only a nitro can give you. You can get a lipo shield for $20 and some cheap 2s zippy batteries from hobbycity and be ready to go. Charger would be most $$$ of your cost though. I sold my nitro cars many years ago to much of a hassle dealing with the pull start I had and some other crap and got out of the RC hobby, but now I started back with boating and the BL and wonderful and I am going to soon get back into cars. Just remember some of the worlds fastest RC Boats are electric

I have and have had a few nitro boats in the past. Let me just say, they are a pain in the ass. They are very hard to tune, and if you live in a place with ever-changing climates, tuning will be a nightmare all the time. You also almost have no way of knowing when you will run out of fuel. You just have to experiment with runs times a few times and know when the time is running out. Also alot of cities ban any gas or nitro operated boats in their ponds and lakes. Either for the pollution or mainly the noise.
The upside though, is you can be on the lake all day with a nitro boat. No waiting for batteries to charge. Price wise, I think they are about the same. Nitro may end up being cheaper if you want to leave it stock (but who ever does?).
I used to think nitro was the only way to go, way back when. But now that brushless technology has gotten cheaper and faster, its the only way to go

Great thoughts guys, thanks. Towerhobbies was having a sale on the Aquacraft SE 27's. Originally wanted a white BL, but TH had none in stock. So. I said I'll get a white nitro and go with that. Then today, decided that electric was the way to go. Towers had no white in BL, so my second choice was green. Orderd that. Now I have bothe niro and electric Should of went to you guys first before deciding.

Well, one will be going back to Towers for a return. Most likely I will keep the green BL. It is kinda cool to see a small piston motor in a model boat over an electric motor. All great reasons above for the BL. Keep the responses coming

Yea ordered the white BL a few months ago, I knew I was going to paint it as soon as I got it that's the only reason I went with white. I really like that yellow though. Stock prop on the BL sucks, if you decide to keep the BL get a new prop and a new cooling jacket. You can get both on this site. I'm running NIMH and hitting mid 30's on the GPS, I have new clue what the nitro SV's are running. I will be switching over to Lipo after X-Mas. It so much easier to mod a BL than a nitro. A changed a few things over from stock already, but after the holidays the only thing on this boat that will be stock will be the ESC, I've got a new motor on order and I'm going to drop a 2.4g rx/tx in it. Stock radio kinda sucks... I'm also waiting for the UL-1 to be re-stocked, but on this site their is a new hull that aquacraft seems to be toying with. Looks like a BL Cat to compete with the BJ26 which makes me happy cuz I'm not the biggest Proboat fan.

I have the SV27 brushless, I have modified it slowly over the past year or two, it is a good basic boat, but it's handling charachteristics are not all great.
I started with 4S lipo and now run 6S lipo, too much power, but it's fast, the only thing is, close to or above 50mph this hull is not good, very jumpy.

I my opinion, you should also consider the Delta Force range (or a copy), you may even pick one up in the Swap Shop if you are patient, I think long term you will have a better handling boat, for similar or maybee even less money.

I do still like my SV, and it's taught me a lot about FE and boat set-up etc, but Time over & bang for your buck, cast your eveys a bit wider, and also ask a lot of the experienced guys on here for idea's and alternatives.

My Money would go a DF29 or DF33 Cyber Storm 9XL on 6S lipo........but that's just me.

So far this my first BL boat & second boat ever & I really enjoy it, I'm learning A WHOLE LOT from it and from this site as well, but I can really see how the guys are out growing them pretty fast. I have only had this boat for a month and I'm ready to change the motor & radio. I alredy completly redid the cooling system. After xmas my revamp should of this boat should be done. It really doesn't handle the greatest stock so I added some better trim tabs and changed the cg and it made a huge difference. I am currently just waiting for the UL-1 to come available, I have already began to order decal sheets, cooling tubing, batteries and other things for the UL-1 and the boat isnt even in stock , but when it come open I'll be ready for it. My goal is to eventually setup my own boat, I have read alot of good things about the delta force hulls and when I can the "OO" the make my own that's prob what I'm going to go with.

My wife just got me a UL-1 for xmas (we celebrated early cause we both work xmas day) she ordered it from kintecracing and Jan helped her out a whole lot. They still had a few different colors, but she bought the very last white one. Another paint job in the works

The SV is what got me into this hobby and I still have that boat, and bought a second SV..
They are alot of fun and a great way to get into this hobby..
