SV27 Motor Upgrade Questions

I have a question on which motor would be a better upgrade for my SV running the stock ESC and 8.4v NIMH. I noticed on OSE that the AMMO 36-50 is the recommended upgrade motor for this boat http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...od=dh-gpmg5290, but I would like to try this motor motor http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...od=dh-gpmg5320. Any answers on which is better?

With the Ammo 2300 You can use the original ESC. With the 2700 You will have to replace the ESC with one of at least 120A to be safe.
Metal cells may have a problem delivering the current required, depending on your prop size, which should probably be reduced in size /pitch from whatever you are using now. Especially if you still use the 8.4 packs.

Thank you very much, I do want to continue to use the stock ESC at this time. I'm currently running stock esc/motor with additional water pickup and upgraded jacket with a CF42 and heat hasn't been an issue yet. I will purchase the 2300 motor and assiciated cooling jacket. I enjoy the CF42 prop and maybe will purchase a CF45 and CF40, in your opinion how do you feel about the prop choice?

If you were to try the CF42 check for heat every minute or so. Check the battery heat also. In my opinion a CF45 would be too big. The ammo motor draws a lot of amps if you load it up too much.
A good prop is the Grim Racer 40-52/3 blade on the Ammo 2300.
Also, if the boat is running too wet the amps & heat start to climb.

Does that require balancing because I haven't done that before. Is their a CF prop that you could recommend instead?

The grim racers come pretty close but still need a bit balancing. The prop that 785boats recommended is the prop I used on my bone stock sv27 on 4s lipo and I got 39 mph out of it every time.

So what materials/parts/tools would I need if I were to choose to start balancing my own props? My sv is running mid 30's, running a little wet on NIMH.

Do you still have the wooden batt. trays if so take them out .This will give you more adjustment on your cog and maybe help the wet ride.If you are looking to get a prop balancer kintec racing has a really nice one http://kintecracing.com/Props.html its the 1st one on the page (this is the one I use) also Steve has a new Etti balancer here that looks nice too http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...prod=etti-a031 . Raw props are on average 12 bucks so they are not really that bad if you screw the first one up, but its not all that hard just take your time with it

Battery trays were the first things I removed, so CG isn't an issue with me. Just looking for the best prop and setup to run with my new motor. I will look into the balancing equipment, any tips of the trade?

Thanx for the tips, I'm also going to convert to Lipo within the next few weeks. Is the Grim prop recommended above still a good choice with lipos?
