Lipo Question for a Rookie

Got my boat in last week and made the first run with 4s 8.4V 4000mah 15c lipos and was not impressed with the speed, it was quick but not near the 25mph I expected from this boat.

The only upgrade is a copper/berylium prop that has been balanced and sharpened before it was installed. Any thoughts about this setup? Any imput would be appricated.

Your LiPos are probably the first suspect......what brand? 15C seems low.

What was the upgraded prop?

I assume the are 2S packs wired in series for 4S total and not somehow wired in parallel.

You said you expected 25 Mph??? Why? The boat should be expected to run in the mid 30's with out much fuss.

I think we found your main contributer to your problem.....he advertises 20 min run time (more or less) and a 15C discharge rate so as not to destroy the controller....................

A low discharge rate (15C) will destroy the batteries if you try and pull to much current from them,,,, not the controller. As for the 20 minute run time........yeah right....that topic has been discussed to death. In theory your batts should be good for 65 amps....but as everything is probably been over rated by the seller, lets say 10C in stead of 15C and God only knows what the actual capacity is......

Go to Hobby City,,,order some 2S 5000mah 20C Zippys for around 28 bucks each and be happy when you hit the throttle!

i cant understand why people insist on cheep lipos would they buy crap nitro for there gas boat too?sorry badag98 I'm not ranting on you but i happens way to often that the online buys always come back to haunt you. its the power for your FE boat don't cheep out buy the best and take care of them . lets see nice boat sh%$ battery= not happy hobbyist or ,nice boat top end batteries= cant wipe the smile off your face hobbyist ,enough said

good lipos are $150.00 and up some of the 4cell that i race with are $250.00 each .i hate to pay that price but the sting goes away when i see the performance i get from them . once again i want to apologize for the rant and it is not directed at you ,maybe I'm still pissed because of the one and only time i bought a set of batteries off ebay and they were garbage.if you lived closer i would lend you a pair of 5000/40c reedy lipos and watch your eyes light up.but Texas is a long way from Vancouver Canada LOL. cheers. Our clubs have been racing the Zippy's almost exclusivly this season and have abused them more than most....they are still going strong. You DO NOT have to pay over-inflated prices to get decent speed/ performance.

yes zippy battreies are the way to go!! i use them and weather allowing i make 3 runs a day and they are still going strong :)

I agree zippy/turnigy is the way to go. Great price and performance. If theres anything I splurge on is a charger.

I'm interested into getting into Lipos within the next few months, I see most of you recommend the Zippy batteries from hobby city I think that will be a good place to start for me but what other equipment do you recommend chargers, balancers ect?

You can't go wrong with Hyperion.

Triton EQ by Electrifly but the cord setup is another 20 bucks. Be sure to get one that has a ballancer. You're looking at 130-150 either way. Bite the bullet as they say and you will only do it once!
