    Positive strut angle

I did some searches, but just could not find what I was looking for.

What are the signs that you have too much positive strut angle? I know that a loose ride is one of them.

    My setup:
I am running 2 2s5000mah batteries and have my balance just a hair under 8 inches from transom. Using stock motor with a Grim 42x55 prop. The stut angle is maybe 1 or so positive. Rudder tucked under just a tad.

I just can't seem to break the 38mph barrier when I use GPS. The boat is handling better than ever. I just keep hearing a sound that to me, sounds like the prop is coming further out of the water than it should and I think that is robbing some speed. I had it out in the wind today with some chop and could not get but 39.9 out of it. I was thinking that a tail wind and chop would help a little.....but on Sunday with no wind and a glass surface only 38.2

One thing I can say is......moving the batteries forward makes a HUGE difference in the stability of the boat. Maybe I should move them back a little to see if the speed will come up some?

    Thanks in advance.

Hey Scooter, I know youve broken 40 now, but a little something I learned from running gassers for some years. 2 ways I used to tell if I was trimmed to high, 1, rooster tail. If its really high, your trimmed to high. You want it low and long. Im not saying a foot high. Its still gunna be up there. Just play w/ the strut, you should see what I mean. And 2, too high, I have found, will eventually begin to develop a bounce as its trying to push the nose up more than the hull and ride attitude wants to support. And I guess there is a 3. 3 would be, although easier to hear in a gas boat.. at least for me, sound of motor. If it sounds like its going 10 times faster than its reall going, your angle is too high.

Ive also found with one prop, you may hit 39 and that prop you have adjusted the strut angle all over the place, and 39 was it. A different prop may want to run in a different position. So for every prop change, be sure to experiment w/ strut adjustments as well.

Thanks tiqueman. I was beginning to think that I was asking a question that most considered "obvious". I have been doing a little research and the advice about the cone is something that I had came across on another site as well. I've seen the exact symtoms that you stated. When I got my 41mph run yesterday, I had done exactly what you said.......adjusted the angle to get a long and low rooster tail. The one thing about the sound I observed is you can hear what sounds like the prop speeding up and slowing down in a straight pass with the strut too high. Kind of like "wah wah wah"..... for lack of a better description.

I love learning this stuff. Never thought I would enjoy boats as much as I do.

Thanks for the comments and advice.
