    Going Lipo need some help.

Hi I am going lipo on the SV27 and i need some input.
First i know i need a 4s lipo low voltage cut off...Only one i know is the novak one...Is there a better one to use?

Another ? if i run 4 AA nimh batteries in the SV27 to the receiver what do i need to do?

And last i see Steve on the site here sells some castle Bec thing for $23.00 is this better to use than the batteries ?
    What should i do?
    Any info will be great.
Also i purchased 4 turnigy 5000 2S 20C batteries last night off hobby king are these any good... I sure hope they are..

    THANKS
:p What go faster that's what I like to do!

Many Escs offer a point of variable voltage cut off

I would use an external power source in all cases for any ESC

You have answered your own question as far as Turnigy batteries, as you purchased them.

Whether you use a UBEC or a battery pack for the receiver you will need to pull the red wire/pin out of the receiver plug on the ESC. Tape it up for future use though.
Personally, I still use the BEC in the ESC with my sv27 package with 4s Lipos. No problems yet. That's not to say that it won't fail me one day though.
      All the best.
      Paul.
See the danger. THEN DO IT ANYWAY!!!

NOVAK isn't the only game in town for add-on low voltage cutoffs. Check out LipoShiled here http://kintecracing.com/Chargers__Lipos__Electro.html

Yes but the bg problem i see with the lipo shiled is it cuts off a 3.0V per cell I feel that's to low.

            OK,

Someone has to say it. Using a LVC as a method of knowing when you packs reach a set point is not the best for your LiPos. I run with someone who uses that as his safety feature to avoid damaging his LiPos and have put them on a charger that I have that measures capacity remaining. It usually comes in at the 2-4% capacity remaining after the LVC kicks in.

Sorry, but to me thats asking for trouble. I have been running most of my boats without LVC's.

Spend some time running your boats, time the runs, see how much capacity you put back into your cells and then use that as your baseline.

Example, 4 min LSO race with my SV, only uses around 3800 Mah out of my 5000 mah packs.
This allows for about a 24% reserve.

May i ask what lipo cut off where you using?
As some are 3V cut off and some 3.3v per cell?

The timer is a great idea only thing is i have a tactik and good spectrum KO pOROPO radios and kos have a timer but spektrum sucks on the water!! Only thing i have left with a timer is my FM old 3 model memory airtronics 3ps wich i love and feel was one of the best radios ever made!!
Wonder if it would be safe to run my FM 3ps in my boats instead of the tactik 2.4?
Would it be worth it or not?
              Thanks

The cutoff was form a Blackjack controller, not sure what its set at. As for a timer, most people have one on theur wrists already.

Wrong Kintec Racing has them reprogrammed at 3.3v

Yes but how do they work?
                      Are they better than novak?
I know novak stutters the throttle as a worning first then if you keep going it will cut throttle and leave steering...how does the lipo shield work?

I would say they are better not to mention made in USA (Ohio)
They were designed for air planes where you need warning but still have control to land.
                        Quote from Dimension Engineering
The soft cutoff gradually reduces power to the motor allowing you to make a controlled landing.
When you notice the aircraft becoming sluggish, it is time to bring it in. The cutoff can be reset by throttling down to zero, then throttling back up. This enables a “go around” to prevent emergency landings and long walks to retrieve your plane.

I also don't think a LVC is needed. and also think they are asking for trouble.

if its a stock sv spedo you can use the built in bec. unless you need more voltage to the receiver. i have the castle bec and it work great.

and you will be happy with the turnigy my buddy has some 4s 20c 5000mah pack. and they work good in a ul-1 so they will be fine in a SV.

Just ordered from Kintec Racing the lipo sheild and the SV canopy screw hatch kit with the sealing foam and some plastic break away screws.
now i should be set ....I have nitro cars could i just use one of my mini receiver battery packs and stuff it in the black box in the boat?
