    Traxxas Titan 12 turn

Hi guys, are you running traxxas 12 turn Titans in RIO Ep? I installed XL 5 and motor to my new Rio because stock ESC melted down on my second day running 7 cell 4600 mA Intellect pack. Well, slightly used Titan melted down completely in my first run on the same pack. It was hot day and the propeler got tangled up many times on pond's plants. I wonder if that could melt down my motor.I am new in rc boats, I am running rc cars.
Are those 12 turns and so motors too hot for boats? Are 19 turns and up better choice? It is big difference between Rc car and Rc boat BRUSHED motors? I will appreciate any information from those who know better. I am building another boat, 16 scale hydro. Thanks Peter.

Do you mean ESC or motor burned up?

Ive since replaced it with a graupner 8.4 race brushed motor, but its much slower.

The traxxas motors are hit or miss. Mostly miss. If you want to stay brushed look into a speed 600. It will drop right in.

What about the esc and motor out of a ERevo?
              would this work well?

If you are changing a motor for different turns, does the propeller need to be change as well? I have feeling that motor turns to propeller ratio is the same as changing spur gear and pinion in rc car.

I know the higher number of turns=more torque, but less rpm. I'm gonna get another 12-turn and use a smaller prop. I think the stock 42mm prop is too big anyway. The 12 turn is cheap enough that if I burn another one it wont be that big a deal. I wish I could use a real canister style motor cooler.

How about a 23 turn Titan? OSE sells em for pretty cheap. As long as you don't overload em, they should work pretty good. I have burnt one up though, running 4S lipo through it on a 442 prop, so take it easy on the load and it should be ok. If you are looking for speed, you will eventually end up in the brushless world - not a whole lot more expensive, especially if you consider how many brushed motors it takes to accept the fact.

Im not sure if this motor will get much speed on my 9.6v nimh. Maybe a 3s or 4s lipo.

I have just bought 20 turn Traxxas Stinger. I will see how that will end up. Have to look into that propeller thing more. I know that 12 turn Titan is rated around 9.6 V or so . 9.6 is limit for XL-5 anyway. And yes, I agree that brusless is way to go but it is expensive to buy it off the bat.
I like those cooling jackets sort of plastic sleeve that embraces whole motor. Offshore sells them. I will replace that cheapo Aquacraft motor mount so I can use it.

I use to run a xl-5 with a titan 12t on the stock 42mm prop. I ran with a 7 cell, best I could get was 18mph. Then I put the stock motor back in and made a rescue boat out of the rio which worked for a while now I have a apache 24 rescue boat. Much better.

Insulation foam. Should be in the same aisle of the pvc pipe at home depot. Its added for floatation and help not to strach the boat being rescued all up. The rescue rig takes about 30ms and under $15, great investment.
