Revolt Motor Upgrade

I've run both the AQ 1800kv and AQ 2030kv motors in my Revolt. The UL-1 motor provided a little more top speed, but honestly, I was expecting more. It's a 50mph boat now using a m545 prop and considering the extra weight I've added to strengthen the hull (two part foam in the bow, CF battery tray, extra glass and finishing resin, etc).

For just goofing around at the cottage, I typically run the AQ 2030 with a m445 prop. It's a 45-46mph boat then.

So, my question is what's a decent motor to further up the speed?

- Leopard 3650 2290kv
- Leopard 3674 2200kv

Also, has anyone tried a CNC'd prop on a Revolt? CNC 4514 or CNC 4814?

The Leopard 3650 isn't a good choice for this size boat to go fast as its only rated up to 1300w & only comes with a 1/8" shaft. The 3674 is a better choice between the 2 motors as it is rated up to 2400w with a 5mm shaft.

At least the 3674 motor and CNC props are o.k. but, need to be sharpened anyway so IMO I'd rather just buy an Octura or ABC, etc.

CNC props are fine if you don't have a balancer, just carefully put a good sharp edge on the blades starting with 220 grit up to 400 or 600 to smooth them out.

I didn't see that the LP 3650 has a 1/8" shaft.

My m445 and m545 props are thin and very sharp. I've gotten into the habit of wearing gloves when I pull the flex shaft out for greasing. It only took about a dozen cuts to learn that lesson.

I live north/west of TO but have done all my RC boating at the cottage in Haliburton. I started in the RC hobby with offroad cars, but I'm getting disappointed with the lack of good indoor tracks to run in the winter.

I've been thinking about just selling the Revolt (or giving to my son) and moving up into a larger cat. I'm just not sure I feel comfortable enough with my boat building skills to do that from scratch.

Very nice. You remind me of Taylor Shaw up there in your area he builds/repairs boats also, full sized boats like yours, he is a hoot and a good friend.

I can't take credit for the build of my 19' J-Craft. It is a brand new 2013 custom built to my specs though.

Your just about at top speed for this hull.......yes you might get a little more speed, but you'll start losing handling.
If you want more speed and keep the handling, get another hull, like the D/F 29 from OSE. transfer the hardware or up grade a little....and go to the 32 or 33" D/F , just a idea......Jim

You may also consider the Turnigy 3665-2100KV. I have two of those motors. Both Stiletto and Pursuit run very well with them and never get hot even though they can consume 5000mAh in 4 mins or less. Neither boats are running at full efficiency (they need more hull and prop work), but the motors have held up well. In my opinion, a good deal for $28.

Also, if you are looking to sell your AQ2030, I'm looking for one.

LOL. The one person I've boated with. Good to to hear the boats are still afloat. I hear your Dad is getting a boat. If I had known, I would have made you a deal on the Revolt.

I run a 3674 with an m545 currently...

I am beyond the limits of the hull. Full throttle is barely touched. The boat torque rolls and will barrel roll easily if you get into it too quickly.

the 3674 is getting put into another project, so the revolt got a 4082 2000kv I've had laying around. I know it's going to be overkill.. but I put that in to atleast be able to run it.

I'm currently looking at my options in the 36-41 range. I've been thinking about a vanquish.. still doing some reading.

My Revolt ran just like yours with the M-545 only prop to put my boat upside down. I made a move to the next bigger M-645 and it runs great much more under control. Try it if your boat iF still assembled it was a big surprise to me. I gave the M-545 to my friend and it runs perfect on his SV27 because the strut is lower at the bottom of the the Vee in the hull my Revolt is .400" higher and to the right of the center line of the hull. His SV27 with Revolt motor and ESC drive line ran 49.8 with a different prop X-645
