    Motor replacement for UL-1?

I wanted to run some larger 6 series props with a 120 controller, is 9xl too much?

I think the 6 you are refering to is the pitch

Example... Octura m645... the 6 is the pitch and the 45 is diameter in millimeters

I was wondering the same thing...I also have the Fiago 9xl and a Hydra 120 esc. I do not know if the esc would live using 4s1p. It should easily work using 4s 2p 8400mah.

It seems to me that the UL-1 likes the lower 4 and 5 pitch props better.

      ..........

Grim suggested the ammo 2300 on the stock SV and never heard of any problems. The 9Xl can be prop up as well becaus it is a lower KV...very close to the SV motor. Remember as well...more poles are easier on the ESC. Ammo is 6 pole. When doing this just be sure and prop down and move up after some testing. Amps will remain lower until you begin proping it up. Might try anything around 2200 rpm and at least a 56mm motor but do not go over 2300.

I'm going the Medusa 36-060-2200 route. I plan on pairing it with an Etti 150 and starting with an Octura m445. This is my intended IMPBA P Sport hydro setup.

I really like the Grimracer L40 x 57/3 prop. I think getting this prop to spin faster in the UL-1 is just the ticket for good handling and higher speeds. The Ammo 2300 sounds like a good idea and so does the Fiago 8xl.

NEU 1515/1Y and prepare to fly...
just as a footnote, this hull was not design with
huge speeds in mind, I think Grimm himself mentioned
40-45mph or around there somewhere. Once you start changing
motors to go faster and faster, it will be a loose canon... just watch
out for kids on the shoreline,
                    :::::::::::::::. It's NEVER fast enough! .:::::::::::::::

Agreed! I wouldn't go any more then what's been suggested to me here. i like to push the envelope but not be unsafe.

Just keep in mind that the ammo 2300 has a shorter can (50mm), so it will most likely build alot more heat from the extra wattage your pumping through it at those rpms. The stock can is 56mm long. If you are going to up the kv/rpms you should look for a 56mm or longer can.

I though the ammo ran more efficently then the stock AQ motor. from what i've read the ammo motor runs very cool, however, each application is different. and since this was the upgrade motor for the SV and has been tested I figured it may be a decent upgrade for the UL-1. Originally I intended an XL motor, maybe an 8XL or 9xl. I've looked at those Medusas but i don't know much about them. your going to get the 36-60-2200 correct? what water jacket will you use?

I’m not familiar with the Ammo 2300, or it's use with the SV. Are they running similar sized props... i.e Grim L40x57 3 blade? Cool temps on the outside of the motor can trick people into thinking that a motor is running within it’s limits when it may not be.

I can’t speak to the medusa in this application, but I do run a few of them in my EDF jets. They handle huge watts and spin 45,000 – 50,000 rpms constantly without a hiccup. I'm sure that the Neu 1515 will rock too. A tad out of my price range though. I plan to measure the Medusa when it arrives, and test fit my after market UL-1 jacket on it. I'm sure it will fit just fine.
