UL-1 goes for about 20 ft, then stops dead in the water

I put a new prop on, hauled ass for 4 batt cycles, then today went out again but after about a minute it stopped. Switched back to the stock prop, same thing, just stopped. Bring the boat in to re-arm and it will just do the same thing. Anyone got any ideas as to what may be causing this? Strut depth/Angle?? thx

Exactly what happened to me. I had another UL-1 SC that was in another boat & swapped it in, and it ran fine. You have a bad SC. Also happened to another racer at WW V. Same thing. Put in another SC & all was OK. Send to Hobby Services & get a new one from them. [ they claimed it there was nothing wrong with mine; yeah, it runs on the bench but twenty feet in the water, then nothing !]

This would be the second time I have to send back an ESC to them. The first one didn't work out of the box and I had to wait 2 weeks for them to send out a new one. back to Hobby Services, again.. thanks for the help.

I now run an old CC80 watercooled with an Etti cap board. No more issues.

Its a BEC SC good buddy. The UL-1 SC likely has issues.

So Hobby Services is sending me another ESC, this would make SC #3 for my ul-1. its nice to know that even though there have been issues with this boat, they are stepping up to the plate to make it right.

You didnt say if you were running lipo or nimh. If it was nimh it could possibly be a bad pack.

Two brand new maxamps 5250 30c 2s. It's an issue with the ESC, they are just sending me out a new ESC, didn't even want the old one cause they know of the issues.

You never stated what new prop you bolted on. My large detunged x645 caused my UL1 to shut down. Now I use the smaller Grimracer L38x55...boat is fast and never shuts down.

I used the same prop as you but checked motor, battery, and ESC temps and all temps were fine. I ran the boat with the X645 quite a few times with the same low temps every run. Then it shut down, brought it back in, put on the stock prop, re-armed SC, same thing. SC would arm, but wouldn't go for more then 20 feet or so even with the stock prop.

What is your strut depth with the L38X35? I bought the grim 30x57 but couldn't get the boat on plane for the life of me even with suggested strut depth and prop angle.

Boat handles fine with strut set 1" from bottom of strut to hull bottom. My boat also likes the size and weight of the older Flightpower 25c 4900mah lipos (weight 240 grams). Going with a lipo lighter in weight than 240grams each makes my boat loose unless I go deeper on the strut. Your prop needs to be sharpened in order for it to get on plane faster and go faster.
