Good boat. I would consider it maybe a second or third boat, but you should be just fine. This forum is full of good answer and help for this and most all electric boats. The trick is patience and adjustments. It's easy for a new comer to rather drop a bigger motor or bigger batteries into there boat to achieve more speed, but there is NO substitution for a well trimmed boat. Took me a lot of money and burned up parts to figure that out. Just take it one step at a time and make one adjustment at a time. Grab some lipos at leaast 4000mah + and 25c or higher. Grab packs that are proven to work like TP, Hyperion, Gens Ace, Blue Lipos Sky Lipos, Turnigy Zippy packs (venom, duratrax, dynamite packs tend to not perform well in boating). Best values are typically found online. www.hobbyking.com. Grab a good metal prop that's sharpened and balanced i prefer the L40x57/3 on my ul1, but other props can/will work. If you don't know how to sharpen and balance yourself there are services that can do it for you.
Have fun and be safe!Comment

Still waiting....... Atleast i have plenty of time to gather valuable info on this forum from the guys that run these and of course Grimracer i cannot wait to see it skimming across the water one of my friends is on a big youtube video making kick so im sure ill have some to document my UL-1's maiden voyage even if it ends in a less than desirable fashion.Comment

Where are you in Iowa? I know some guys in the Cedar Rapids area that run boats. If you don't mind traveling a little we race electric at the Twin Cities Model Boat Club in Minnesota. PS: NEVER swim after a boat. Many times it ends badly. Hope you enjoy the boat you should have a good time with it. BillComment

Got my boat today the thing is awesome looking cant wait to get it in the water to see how it handles. Im looking in to getting a prop balancing jig anyone have any pointers on prop work i think ill order one that is already done just to have a good reference point before i go ruining a brand new one. Im a speed demon so im sure ill want to push the envelope in the speed department just not sure how far i can safely push the stock electronics.Comment
