My latest UL-1 Mod's. Its never enough!

Well after trying out several motors, CC/Neu 1515/2200kv-Leopard 4074/2150kv and even a Neu 1515 I have found a pretty good combo that seems to be ideal for this hull. Your probably happy where you are and thats all fine and well. I guess I got bored and wanted to see where I could get considering that battery placement in this hull is not generous enough. I decided to make a new motor mount, I tried those clamp type, floor mounted versions and they just plain suck as they dont answer the issue of inner clearence which in needed IMO for this little tiger. My mount puts the motor back 3/8" farther then the stock mount. This allows for the thicker/ larger capacity 30c and 45c quality 4S packs out there. I didnt like having to use 2S packs or smaller capacity 4S packs just so they fit in the stock setup. Here is what I was using and what I am now using.

With the CC/Neu 1515 or the Leopard 4074 (no cooling jacket) I was running a T180 esc, 5.5mm bullets all around. Either two 2S 30C 4500 or 5000 Polyquest or Hyperion packs and a AQ 42/55 prop or a 642. It was a happy setup. Ran fast (for me) and controllable. But the darn pack fittment was driving me crazy. I wanted to figure out how to put larger 4S packs in and still make everything work with the covers and taping. You guys know what I'm talking about if you own a UL-1.

So it dawned on me there was room to take the motor mount back some, and there was floor clearance to keep from making contact with the motor of a reasonable size, even with a cooling jacket. I thought the CC/Neu 1512 size can would be perfect. Its got plenty of power. More then enough for this size hull. Turns out my gut feeling about this setup was spot on. Almost perfect for what most of us expect out of this handfull of fun!

Here is a pic of the mount I made. Garage made and crude,....... but still functional!

Here is the current setup. A CC/Neu 1512/2650kv with a cooling jacket, Etti 150 esc, AQ 40/52 prop on 4S2P 25C 5000 Hyperions and CC 6.5mm bullets. What a world of difference. Even with the air dam installed I have had 3 blow overs. Winds were calmn. Tonight you couldnt have prayed for a better set of running conditions. I cant believe how much dang faster this little girl is now. Maybe its the larger packs, maybe its the 37k rpm and prop. Dont know right now. But its like night and day. I had a decent running boat before,.. cruising well in the upper 40's maybe low 50's. Just my guesstimate.

Now I got a banshee screaming devil that leaps out of the water and today reminded that paddling out to get the boat is no longer an option. Wish I had someone doing some video. Ever had one of those days when everything just seemed to mesh? I mean fit like second skin? That was today even with a blow over. Landed upright so who can complain, right?

Nice set up, I was looking at building a zipp kit rigger and using that same motor and esc and was told that with some prop work I should see high 70s-80 mph,
when will you get some video and speed numbers, I'm sure you would be in the high 50s to mid 60s.
I got 56.8 mph on 5s with a modded m445 prop and it was a handfull. nice job and looking foward to some numbers and video.later

I'm useing the stock ESC right now but want to get a larger one so I can run 5s-6s safely, I think I'll go with one of the hk or turnagie escs for $50.00 or so if I burn it up it won't hurt as bad and I can't afford a good effi navy right now.

Oh yea that motor will work good for top end speeds but I'm sure someone will chime in and say that a motor with a lower kv would work better for getting it on plane faster, higher kv motors are good for riggers because they are lighter, but again test, test, test and I for one will be on the look out for your numbers, good luck have fun.
