    ESC Question

My UL-1 is not running up to speed. I have a grim racer 40/57 prop that a friend of mine who races sharpened and balanced. The shaft is properly greased and all wires are connected tight. I am using gen ace 2s 5000 mah 40c lipos. First run the boat started off plowing and then took off for about a minute at full speed but then quit and started plowing again. I checked all connections and the esc. The esc looked like it had melted somewhat at the capacitor end. I checked all connections, re-armed the esc and tried again but the boat never got up to speed. I replaced the esc. The boat plowed for a minute and then took off and ran all out until I rolled it turning. Fortunately it landed right side up, but it would no longer get up to speed. Again the esc looked like it melted again at the capacitor end. I have tried to find answers on this forum but I am not finding a similar situation. Question 1; Did I*!**fry the esc? Question 2; Do these esc have a history of breaking down? Question 3; Would I be be better off upgrading the esc? Question 4; Will Aquacraft replace my escs?

#1 - Probably. Plowing for extended periods of time is VERY hard on the ESC. It is also hard on the motor. If the latter's magnets overheated then it will cause ESCs to fail.
#2 - These ESCs are quite reliable with the stock UL-1 components. Cheap batteries can and will damage ESCs.
#3 - Upgrading the ESC may help, unless the packs are bad or the motor magnets are bad. Then you just might lose the new ESC.
#4 - They probably will if the boat is still under warranty.

Thanks Fluid. I will used better quality batteries. The boat is not under warranty anymore so I am on my own for replacement. I will also check the motor. I must not have the set up right. I did go all out for awhile and then stop.

ekaser I too have had a problem with my metal prop its the one that grimracer says its for L 40 x 57, with mine I have a problem with speed, my UL-1 with the stock prop does 45 mph with my Venom 40c 5000 mah 2S lipo 7.4 batteries, When I change the prop to the metal one Balance and sharpen my speed went down to about 15 mph, My ESC is the stock one and its OK, I am thinking that I might have to jump to 3S 20c 11.1 5400 lipos to get it to fly like it did, so as for now I am waiting for my 3S lipos to come in, And then I will know if that was the problem, if not oh well then back to the drawing board LOL.

I'm running the 40x52 3 blade and it goes pretty good. The 3 blades are a bit more of a pain to S&B.
