    Ul-1 on 5s

I know I read a thread somewhere about putting the UL-1 on 5s instead of 4s but I can't find it. So, I was wondering is it safe to do regular runs of the stock UL-1 motor on 5s?
And then is it ok to do so with the stock ESC or is it better to use a new ESC for that like a seaking 120A?

Yes there are some threads in here about 5s in the UL-1, and people say they run it thay with no problems, But not recommended because the esc is only rated for 4s.
I ran mine on 5s once with a m545 prop and it took of like a bat out of you know where, my temps were ok but I only ran it for a very short time and it went air born.
If you do try it on 5s do so FOR A SHORT RUN, 1.5-2 MIN MAX AND CHECK YOUR TEMPS.
Your better off putting an esc that can handle 5s.

Thanks for the reply, G! Yeah, I have a Seaking 120A I think I am going to put with it so that it can run for a while in that setup. I hope it will work well!

I'm sure it will, good luck and hold on.
Try putting your batterys cross wise in the hull, alittle more weigt up front.
I have a swordfish 120 I might try but I can't seem to get it diled in right in my BJ on 6s, just braking into the 50s when I should be in the high 50s to almost 60, still messing with that set up.

Your better off not pushing the UL-1.I completely understand you want to go faster, but you will destroy the hull.Run it stock and use props to tune the speed.Get a different hull for high speed running.

Props are the way to go.

I have had pretty lousy luck with props so far. I've used three different one's recommended by grimracer and had low to mid 40s speeds overall.

It a little more involved than just slappin a prop on.You have to set the strut right depending on the prop.A very common set up is using a Grim 40x57/3 with the strut set at 1-11/8"negative(down).This has gotten many UL-1's to 50mph including the one I had.

I used a M445 S/B and was just under 50mph strut at 1" and neutral.

I actually spent three battery packs on a couple occasions adjusting struts and props but never got above 45. It was a little frustrating. I guess that's why I was just looking for something inherantly faster like more voltage.

I have run my UL-1 on 5s many times buy you need a good feel of how to set this boat up on 4s first
and I disable the bec on the esc and use a rx pack

When adjusting the strut does the angle change acordingly with the strut.
With the stuffing tube going into the strut it seems to limit the amount of angle you can adjust, and has anyone cut the stuffing tube back, push the liner in the strut and put heat shrink on, this would give you alot more adjustment to play with.

I have had to bend the stuffing tube a bit to get the right angle at a given depth.

just got my UL-1 today and already you guys got me wanting to go faster, got to love this forum!! Hey Larry or G-Unit so what prop would buy to replace the stock? Stay with the 3 blade or 2 blade does it really matter? I'm willing to pay for a good prop just don't wont to throw away 45 bucks. Don't race yet, but I plan to work my way there. Thanks Jeff

L38/55, 440/3 were my go to prop's in my UL-1 but that was a few years ago.
