I am wondering if there is anyone else that has experienced a runaway with a UL1? I am a new RC boat operater and purchased a UL 1 because it had good reviews. The first time i put it in the water, it made about 8 laps perfect and on the 9th lap, i lost all control and it ran at full throttle into the bank. As it was running away, I even turned the transmitter off thinking it would stop. It crashed and landed upside down at full throttle. I had to run to the boat and disconnect the battery to shut it down. Hobby Service techs tell me this is impossible and will not back their product. Has anyone else heard of a UL 1 runaway?

its happen to me. but thats because the stupid water jacket and its oversized o-rings allowed 5 million gallons of water to leak inside and wet my reciever thus my baby running into the shore. i cant stress to how important it is to make sure EVERYTHING is good to go before running her....... due to popular demand, im guessing the factory only slightly put things together to speed things up. that should be called ARTR (ALMOST READY TO RUN) anyway, my question is did you find any water inside??? even a little???If the #2 pencil is the most popular, why is it still #2?

When it hit the rocks, it completely busted the front of the boat. It landed upside down in about 1 foot of water. It was still running at full throttle. I had to remove the tape and disconnect the battery to shut it down. The motor compartment was dry but the hull was half full of water due to the busted front end. When i removed the boat from the box the first time, The steering shaft had rust on it from one end to the other. The steering horn was turned to the back of the boat and not straight up or down. It would only turn to the right. Being a first time RC boat operator, I thought that was normal since this was a brand new "READY TO RUN BOAT"Comment

CONSIDER THIS, if you dint make sure 100% that the water jacket was seated on correctly chances are water struck your reciever freezing it up causing it to run away to no response. i can say that both the manufature and you are at fault. (if that was the case) manufacture: water jacket wasnt seated on correctly. you: should have made sure the jacket was on right. (remember, thats IF this was the case) and IF it was, since i think both were at fault, they should still replace it for you. because its a "RTR". I MADE THE SAME MISTAKE TOO MAN BUT I RAN INTO SOFT SAND PHEEEW!If the #2 pencil is the most popular, why is it still #2?

UL-1 Crash
Shane,
Wish you could have had a chance to meet and run with us in Henderson Texas. We have a lot of experience with UL-1's. I own 3 of them and you know Tommy and there is another fellow JT, who attend our weekend events. There are so many possibilities for the problems that you encountered. It is a shame that Aquacraft is not coming back to your aid. Don't give up, just look for another hull here on OSE and swap out your components. We may later be able to single out the failure mechanism. I have been boating for over 20 years and have seen many runaways, but not a UL-1. The UL-1 basically a great entry to advanced level RC Boating platform. The RTR is a great classification, but it would help to have a sponser with subject matter experience present during the break in period. I have had problems that Tommy has helped with the radio setting being reversed by an anxious grandson. I was about to purchase some replacement parts, but Tommy help to work out the obvious to him.
Hope all works out and let us know if we can be of any future help.
We might be hitting the Henderson pond on Sunday if the water level is up.

The throttle trim was never touched after i went through the binding process.
I bought the boat at a local Hobby Shop.
I am not sure if the water jacket was sealed correctly or not. I assumed since it was a brand new ready to use boat, everything was good. BOY WAS I WRONG.
Teddy, I appreciate your comments. I want to watch you all run one weekend. I want to get involved with RC boats but will probably try another brand or something. I don't want to have any dealings with Hobby Services. Their service techs were very rude and practically called me and the 6 witnesses that saw the crash liers. They said it was impossible. I am scared to use the same components out of my crashed UL1 because I am affraid it will happen again. Anyway, I hope to meet you soon at the pond. I want to see how they are suppose to run. It cost me about $75 per lap to see how they shouldnt run. ha haComment
