    Lipos UL-1 and prop

Ok, just ordered a Aquacraft UL-1 and will be here by the end of the week. In the mean time I have been reading all the post on this boat. My first concern are the batteries. Thinking of going with Turnigy 5.0 packs. 5000mah 2 cell 30c. Measure 143x50x19. I am concerned about the 50mm. Will this be too wide to fit in correctly? And will I have room to adjust my CG? Any comments or suggestion would be appreciated. Hyperion has a 5000mah 25c that is a little smaller. What do you think?

Also, looking for suggestions on prop size. Looking for a real fun boat to play with. I want it to handle well and fly! I know Chuck here does an awesome job on props.

You guys have a great site here! I would be lost with out it. It is a great place to ask questions from guys who run this boat and know what works and don't work.

    Thank you

They will fit, stay with the highest "C" you can.
I just got a pair of the Turnigy nanotech 6000mah 25-50C they fit nicely as well.
The nanotech's have smaller wires and bullets than the turnigy 5.0's and are a
little easier if you have to solder connectors.
I used the 5.5mm bullets on my boat.

Pescador thanks for your response. I looked at them batteries, nice price. I know this question has been beaten to death and feel bad aking it. There is alot of info on this subject allready. I have been reviewing the threads all day today on this battery subject.

What I am getting out of it it is that it seems all 2S packs will fit the UL-1 pretty much. More mah's and c's the faster you go. And some batteries are very expensive.

So being a beginner I am leaning twards the Turnigy 5.0 5000mah 2c 30c @$23.49. Hyperions are about $65.00 for one. So I can get 4 Turnigys for the price of two Hyperions. The Turnigys will get the boat in the water for now and am sure will make the boat go!

Now the prop issueLeaning twards a Octura M445, polished and balanced.

Still feel free to comment on this. I know there are many opinions and many combos, and they all work. I guess it is up to me to experoment, which is part of the fun of r/c boating.

You need to watch your temps with this prop. The boat runs great with it but you will also draw a lot of amps. Keep an eye on the temps and you will do fine. I would not recommend running this prop for five minutes straight because of the strain on the esc.

Use a L40x57. Best prop for the boat IMO. Make sure you sharpen & balance. The boat my be hard to get on plane with that prop, but once it is on plane it's a rocket. Like mentioned above this prop with a 1" + strut depth you will get into the 50s on stock power. I forget the exact depth I used, I have since retired the hull.

I've got one of these hulls with a GR L40/57/3 blade with stock motor and 90A Seaking. I haven't ran her yet...gotta wait until next season

What kind of temps are ya'll getting when running this prop?

I ve run my ul-1 with the above mentioned props and they work great, but my all time favorite all around prop was the Octura X442-great speed and acceleration. You also might want to consider upgrading the cooling jacket to the "silver"aluminum can Steve here at OSE sells.IMO,it just increases the reliability of the motor and doesnt leak like the stock jacket has been known to do.

I dont remember an exact temp, but it for sure didnt run hot at all.I could run the boat with the L40/57/3 untill the LVC kicked in.Temps with this prop shouldnt be a worry.

I am doing more home work on the battery selection. I see most 4000mahs-5000mahs are about 48-50mm wide. Is this too tight a fit between the cooling jacket and the inside tub?

The Hyperions 5000mahs 25c are 46mm wide. Would it be better to get these batteries intead of the Turnigy's. I know Hyperions are quite a bit more money.

Turnigy has a 3600mah that is 44mm wide. Will my boat go slower and have less run time with a 3600mah over a 4000-5000mah battery?

My hull came with the upgraded jacket along with the L40x57 3 blader

The prop is not very sharp though...so over the winter break, I'll need to get it rebalanced and sharpened

This UL-1 I bought from Towerhobbies last week. $299.97 shipped. Just picked up another in orange. Could not pass up the good deal. Anyway, pulled the trigger on the batteries and a charger. I bought four packs of Turnigy 5000mah 2c 30c packs and a Turnigy Accucell ACC6 charger.

Next is the prop selection. Going to up grade the battery connections to 5.5 bullets. Up gradeing the flex shaft. Maybe the cooling jacket. Hopeing this is the 3rd generation boats with better cooling jacket.

Ponds will be frozen over shortly here in Massachusetts. Want to get together with the guys in Mass this spring. Over the winter will set the boat up and keep reading OSE!

Thanks for your responses. Will be posting lots more on my progress and will be asking lots more questions.

Sounds great! As already mentioned I like the grim 52/3 and 57/3 be prepared to do some balancing and sharpening.
Don't forget a Low-Voltage-Cutoff. I like the Dimension at Kintec Racing that is set at 3.3v. If you run those packs down too low they are toast (ask me how I know) if it's a little rough you can miss the warning stutter I still like to time the run to be safe. I usually aim for about 4 minutes but my actual races are less.

yeah i hear ya. im in framingham and some ponds have ice. other don't. im still running.... try running your batteries like pic below, puts more weight up front. try L40/57/3. that prop should be fassst. i upgraded my flex to octura, the shaft is much tighter now. also i did this motor mount instead (see pic) and i just installed an air damn on it with Wiper blade. havent ran it yet to see if it really works i'll let you know my findings
