    Smoking motor?

The motor in my UL-1 starts smoking after five seconds of run time with supplied water running through the cooling lines, and the prop is not turning smooth! I need a replacement motor. I'm thinking about going w/ the stock replacement unless other options are available w/ increased benefits. Has anyone used other motors w/ the same diameter that are an improvement over the stock replacement unit for near the same cost? I'm using the stock ESC and two 2s 25c 5800 mah lipos.

Weird for that to happen. Contact AQ send it back for a replacment and stick with stock ul-1 motor JMO

    * Check over your set-up to verify everything is OK. UL-1 stock motors are very reliable and well built, which is weird for it to start smoking (anything is possiable though). *

What is the history of that motor:
      - How many runs has it had?
      - Hooked up to 4S voltage?
      - Stock ESC?
      - Prop sizes run?
      - Ever been wet inside?

The stock UL-1 motor is what I would go back with. Run the old one until it dies then return it for exchange.

Every stock UL-1 drive cable I have seen are soldered off center (roll cable on glass to check for slightest wobble). So vibration is bad right from the start no matter how well the prop is balanced or cable is greased. So I use custom made Jeff Wohlt drive cables with longer prop shaft that rides full length of strut bearing surface. He glues the cable into shaft which I think is better than soldering.

Also check the motor/cable coupler for excessive runout or wobble. If wobble is visible replace until you find one that rotates more true. Its hard to find one with zero wobble.

The previous owner ran 6s through the stock set up, I think that might of shortened the life of the motor. Its weird I just touch the throttle and smokes starts to generate accompanied with that nasty burning electric smell.... motor is toasted. I'm glad the ESC still works.
