    Quick Question?

With a stock UL-1 motor and a 120 amp ESC what would make a long running, reliable lipo configuration? I would like to run two 4 cell lipos in parallel, somewhere between 30c and 40c and between 4000 or 5000 mah. If i'm understanding basic FE set ups the motor needs a ESC rated higher than what the motor can draw and the batteries have to be capable of providing more current than the motor can use. Any comments are welcome, I've found some great information on this site and appreciate all who participate.

For a UL-1 motor you certainly don't need 40C cells. Paralleling two 4S/4000mAh/20C packs will act like one 8000 mAh 20C pack as far as the motor and ESC know, and they will supply 125 amps safely - far more than the UL-1 will draw in any sane setup. As for the ESC, a 100 amp rating or higher will be plenty. Drawing an average of 65 amps from twin 4000 mAh packs (plenty from the UL-1) will give you a run time of over six minutes and should be bullet proof as long as motor/ESC temperatures don't get too high.

With 4S packs, make sure you measure the height as its pretty tight in there.

Doby makes a good point. I have run twin 4S/3300 packs just fine, don't know about higher capacity cells though. 5000s would almost certainly be too high.

Would using 30c or 40c be harmful? How did you arrive at 125 amps?
