Wow, didn't know the Lucas Oil could go so fast in (nearly) stock trim!

I've been busy with my Genesis for the last couple of months and decided to take out my Lucas Oil for a change.

The boat is completely out of the box except I did replace the stock 1800kv motor with the UL-1's 2030kv unit. I added a OSE flexshaft and Octura x642 prop. On GPS, the boat consistently got 50 mph on 4S, using cheap old Turnigy 2S 5000mAh batteries!

50mph, that just 10 mph less than my Genesis running a 40mm motor running on 6S! Temps were barely above ambient on 3 1/2 minute runs, just sweet running all around.

Running my other 4S boats are typical depressing after a SAW run with my Genesis, but this Lucas Oil felt almost as exciting!

Question - Is there a way to reinforce the hull of this boat without cutting up the double hull top? At 50mph, it did do a flip at high winds, and it did leave some very small fine hairline cracks on the top of the hull, probably due to the flexing.

A friend of mine upgraded his Lucas to 6S with a motor and ESC change here he is "poking" around...
The config is a short Leopard 4065 1400kv with a seaking 130A HV ESC (I would prefer a standard marine seaking 180), on an octura x442 prop. It runs cool as a cucumber. The nice thing about the 4065 is that it fits under the canopy without any mods needed. I have the upgrade config covered in the Lucas setup guide, email me at [email protected] for a copy.

Did you did anything to reinforce the hull? I think flipping at that speed will results in those longitudinal micro cracks in the clearcoat or even the fiberglass.

Nice! I knew that the 3674 type motors don't fit with the stock mount because of the canopy, but the 4065 never occurred to me!

I have converted my Revolt 30 to a Leopard 4082 2200kv motor recently, but I'm not sure about doing the same on the Lucas Oil. On the Revolt, I was able to easily reinforce the hull with carbon fiber, and adjust a new motor mount to lower the center of gravity for that big motor. But the Lucas Oil motor is so high on that double formed hull, that I worry about fitting a large motor in there, even if it clears the canopy.

Well, unfortunately last weekend my Lucas Oil flipped a couple of times rather hard at just under 50 mph and the hull on the left side cracked all the way though from bow to stern at the seam!

The boat is supposed to be able to move at this speed I'm assuming, but apparently this hull didn't take it very well. I've seen plenty of Motley Crews crash at that speed with no damage, yet this Lucas Oil which is supposed to have slightly thicker glassing didn't. Oh well.

I don't plan on cutting the tub up and fixing it from the inside, I will just use some high strength resin with some additional milled fiberglass to reinforce the seam.

but it stopped me from trying to pass the 80km/u ( 50mph) mark
