Water pickups....which side is best ?

I am working on my Electric Open Hydro and was thinking about trying
a dual pick-up rudder as I am having some heat issues pushing the prop size.
I found one that is pretty close in size, but noticed the water pickups are
on the opposite side. I probably should know this already and do remember
some vague discussions on this. Does anyone know the theory or practical application
of which side of the rudder actually provides the best cooling for heat racing ?

Ken, when you say open hydro what boat are you actually building? Is it a 10s? Whats your setup?

It is a 10s Electric version of the Crap-Shooter built by Don Ferrette.
I made some changes in the quest for more heat racing speed. Mark Grim
made a great set of sponsons, and I added a Schulze 40.160 (old style), plus
some 100c HRB Graphine packs, and threw a lot of prop at it.
Been racing in the Open Hydro class in the District 3 races.
Have been experiencing thermal shut-offs near the end of the heats. The last
episode leaving me a sitting duck in a turn and got clipped while waiting for it
to come back to life. I really hate to give up the speed it has by reducing prop,
so I am working to optimize the cooling. Here is a video link of it at our Wave Blasters club.

Ah the holly grail of speed. Prop Down or lighten it up! I keep chasing that dream too. I have been Modifying an SGX for years. I keep taking weight out. I'm now at 7s 6600 with a 2280 and a 40-160. Hopefully a 1915 prop. Not really any faster than my Gundert I have been running for 15 years. (10 mph faster than it was then. Better Batteries) but hopefully turns better.

it is using a Neu 1530-1y

Ordered a modified prop from Chris Hoffman today.
I think some back-cut and de-tongue might help.

I favour putting water pickups on the underside.

As long as you are starting off having some form of water cooling, i find prop mods to control temps much more effectively than cooling mods.

                  Safety Concern in Video

In the interest of safety, never bring a boat straight into shore directly at yourself. Always return to shore parallel to the shore line, not perpendicular.
