    Pursuit Prop recommendations

Just got my new HK Pursuit this weekend and I am extremely pleased with it. I made a run all stock with SK180 esc and basically stock adjustments. It seemed to be set up very well from the factory. Trim tabs are even with the hull and stinger has an ever so slight positive angle up. All looked like great starting points. I got the cog at very close to 30% by putting the relatively heavy SK180 as far back as possible with the 2x 2S batteries side by side on the stock mount up front. I would have liked a little more flexibility with battery position but the forward most battery strap slots in the mount are a little too far forward for me to bring the batteries back much. I'll have to figure something out with that. It seemed to ride pretty well and didn't have any weird tendencies. Everything was nice and cool after the run as well.

Just two thoughts really. Obviously it isn't real fast stock, that is a given with the 1620kv 2-pole and no surprise. But I noticed it ventilates ALOT before planing. I have got a Leo 3674 1900kv to swap in to give it a little more speed. I think that should help quite a bit, or at least potentially! So I know the stock prop has some diameter to it but the blades have very little surface area. I am sure it unloads the stock motor and helps with top end speeds. I think it might be contributing to the ventilation problem though. Am I right thinking that?

Where I'll be drive it at times I don't have a lot of open water to really stretch it out so fast planing and acceleration are key. Still learning to drive it but it was a little aggravating coming off plane because it would take what seemed like forever to get back up again. From the little bit of reading I have done it sounds like the x series octura should bite better? Just looking at pictures the blades seem to have way more surface area. Maybe even thinking a 3-blade may work better? What do you guys recommend? I am kind of leaning towards x440/3 or x442?

    Thanks!

Hi, I own a Pursuit. It is stock with a mm2 esc. Yes the stock props not the best. Yesterday i went trying some props on 5s. my favorite one up until now is the cnc x440/3 from OSE. i will try the x442/3 next week-end. i got 67 kph on the x440/3 on 5s. You also can try an x443 on 4s, it should get reasonable speed.

    i hope it helps!

Wow that is pretty impressive for the stock motor. You must have is set up pretty well!

Thanks for the prop recommendations. Did you seem to think the cnc 3-blades ventilate less then the stock prop at plane off?

for the 1900kv on 4s in a small pond go with the x440 3 blade. will be good acceleration and no load it up to much.

Yup, the stock prop cavitates pretty bad. I put an M445 on mine and it bites hard now! Speed is up from 33 mph to 41.3 with just the prop swap. Stock SSS motor on 4s. Everything is still cool. I have an M545 but haven't tried it yet. Fun stuff!

Okay I am going to get an x440/3 and x442. I want an m445 but ofs is out, actually most places are. Obviously a good one since they are sold out.

Shouldn't my 1900kv on 4s be okay with a m545? Or would an x445 be a better bet?

I wanted to make sure my order was early enough for the best chance for leaving out today so I had to make a quick decision. I just went with the m545 . It may be a little much but I am sure I can use it on something down the road. Thanks for the help guys!

I think you will be very happy with it! Just make sure to check the temps, especially with the 1900 kv.

Thanks! I wasn't real clear but I actually ordered one of each x440/3, x442, and m545. I'll probably test the m545 on more open water for just all out speed runs. I haven't done any prop work in a while so looking forward to getting back into it!

The m545 is really pushin it so good thing you have a T180a ESC. As mentioned, run for about a minute full throttle then check temps, I like my stuff less than 125*

Keep us posted on how it does. I am going to do a lot more testing with mine very soon. Like I said, I have NOT tried the M545 yet but it runs good and comes in around 95* with the M445. For what it's worth I have upgraded cooling on mine also.

Hey Dan, what cooling upgrades did you do? I will probably add another pickup and have separate water lines for the motor and esc eventually.

So I did some testing on the stock SSS motor since I pulled it to put the 3674 in. It is in fact a 4-pole. The way I can tell is a kv test with my castle mamba max esc came back with roughly twice the actual kv rating. 4-poles you have to divide by 2 for an accurate reading. So I am actually a little disappointed because the Leo 3674 isn't as much of an upgrade as I thought.
