performance difference between 2 blade prop and 3 blade

I was told that a 3 blade prop would be good for my setup, but if I go with the same size prop with only 2 blades what kind of difference will it make??

Example: x455/3 blade vs x455/2 blade

A three blade will be smoother running but draw a few more amps. It will also have a lot less cavitation on takeoff so you may be able to have less prop in the water to achieve the desired speed. Sounds quite different too.

The 2-bladed prop will have considerably lower thrust than an identical 3-bladed prop due to less blade area. How will this affect speed? Depends, the lower thrust may let the 2-blade spin faster especially if the 3-blade is maxing out the motor. The higher rpm may increase boat speed. OTOH one of my boats runs 4 mph faster with an x455/3 than it did with an x455/2....drew fewer amps too. You use what your actual boat/motor/cell combination likes, not just what someone says to use. Try it and see....

3 blades work well on Vee's, I had trouble getting my 1/8 Hydro on plane with one as opposed to a 2 blade which popped it right up. When I go to a 3 blade I usually reduce diameter a bit, if I run an x455/2 for example I would go to an x452/3. BTW, Neu's love to be loaded up and like diameter, your lowish kv for 6s invites a big prop!

Fluid suggested a x455/3 but I can't find one sharpened and I've never sharpened one myself.. sounds tricky

I agree with the 455/3 suggested, the 1527 is a beast and with the kv rating 6s2p would be great. Your ESC is certainly up to the job but keep an eye on temps all around. Don't skimp in the lipo department, go for a couple 6s 5000mah 40c's minimum to run 2p
