Ideal prop for 29" Sprint Cat?

I'm running a 29" Sprint Cat with a Leopard 4082 motor rated at 1600 kv. ESC is a Sea King 180 V2 powered by two 3s batteries in series for a total of 6s. Packs range between 5000 and 5300 mah and are at least 40c.

I'm a sport boater, no racing and seldom run with any other boats. I am not looking for all out speed, nor do I need to meet any minimum for time or laps.

I currently have 3 props in my inventory for this boat. They are as follows... M545, X448 and Y547. The M545 runs pretty good, but sounds a bit "slippy" (not technical, but you get the idea". The X448 is faster, but also causes things to come back hotter. The Y547 is an absolute mad man, and I've only run it once due to being borderline out of control.

I'm thinking about backing down to something like an M445 to reduce amp draw and hopefully increase my run time a bit and keep things a bit cooler.

I also have an X442 and S215 for another boat, but I think those might be a bit small for my Sprint Cat.

X642 would probably be a good choice or an m445. also depends on how deep you run the prop in the water.

I run with the centerline of the prop shaft dead even with the bottom of the sponsons.

Thats a bit deeper than i run mine. i put the boat on a glass table. bring the strut down to touch the table, level it and then move it back up about a 1/16-1/8" depending on size of boat.

I have a 3/16 gap on my strut height on my mean machine. It's the same lower hull as the Sprintcat 29

3/16 gap between the shaft and the sponson? Above or below? Yes, the Sprint Cat and Mean Machine are the same lower hull. Only the top cap is different.

m445 would be a good all around prop

i think a lot of your issues will be smoothed out once you raise that strut up. where it is, the prop is digging in too much, causing it to be unstable and run hot, amps higher etc....

Thanks guys. I brought it up about 1/8" and this is physically as high as I can go without breaking out the Dremel on my strut. Will try running it again before investing in another prop.

Update... I ran the boat again tonight after doing a few things.

                        #1. Jacked up the strut

#2. Modified my rudder so there is a pickup on either side. Also widened and lengthened the water pickup and cleaned the FOD out of my rudder water passages. I have much more water coming out the side now.

#3. Soldered new 5.5 mm bullets between the motor and esc. This replaced the 4 mm bullets that were on it.

Temps were nice and comfy. ESC barely topped 90. Motor was less than 110 and the wires stayed under 100.

                        I'm a happy boater now.
