The blast has a screw on plastic prop last I had one.

You will need to change the propshaft to a conventional one and buy the drive dog, nut, washers, etc.

Is the boat brushed? I would start with a X430 and see how that does.

      Easy Prop Upgrade

      Hey guy,
Traxxas has made it really easy (AND CHEAP) to upgrade props on that boat

What you need to do is replace the stock prop shaft with one of these... http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXHVC3&P=7 -- then you can use all standard 3/16" bore props, be sure to get a pack of these... http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXGBJ3&P=7 -- so you can set your clearances, what-a-deal

      Hope that helps.

          Flawless,

Many of the parts for the Blast came from the Villain. AQ does the same thing, use the same servo (and many other small parts) for about a dozen different models.

          Back to the Blast...
Regarding the part numbers, where did you find a different number?? Look here... http://traxxas.com/products/models/m...st-accessories -- they list 1529x as the upgrade shaft for 3/16" I.D. props.

Also, I attached the parts list, look under the heading "Driveline Components" you'll find p/n 1529x listed there too (in bold no less) as the upgrade prop shaft to run 3/16" I.D. props.

Now add the Tower Hobbies link, that's 3 sources (2 from the manufacturer) all saying the same thing; kinda hard to argue with that.

Hope that clears the air, I have no reason to mislead you.

              It's All Good

No prob, it's all good, can't learn if you don't ask, I just wanted to assure you that I was giving you accurate info

According to Tower the diameter of the stock prop is 1.25" (31.75mm), they don't list pitch, guess ya gotta call Trax & hope they can tell you. Some Blast boats came with a heatsink on the motor (be careful with this model otherwise you'll overheat it) and others came with water cooling. If your uncle's boat has the heatsink I would suggest getting the water cooling kit - P/N 3875 $14.00 retail.

If / when you upgrade the prop shaft and/or make prop changes be sure to get a pack of those teflon washers, you'll want to run a couple of them on each side of the rudder, and allow a slight amount of slop back 'n' forth. you'll also want to run 1 or 2 of them between the drive shaft tube & the universal joint.

I use this grease on mine... http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXMPH8&P=ML -- believe it or not, that little tub will last a long time. I've been using it with all my boats for the past couple years and still have plenty for future use. Grease up both the prop shaft where it passes through the rudder and the driveshaft itself.

Also, you'll want to adjust the outdrive up at least to the middle. When it's all the way back it cause's the nose to plow quite a bit (because of the forward location of the battery) resulting in a lot of speed being scrubbed off, don't be afraid to experiment to compensate for different battery weights.

That would have been easier than what I did: a 4mm prop shaft and a shim to 3/16 for the prop.
