    Prop speed????

what prop speed is the norm for large (v) hulls (70 inch, 12kg fitted out) for you guys? and what speeds have you been getting as an average?

    thanks

Not many of us run hulls even approaching that size. WIll you be using a single drive or twins?

hi Fluid, will be twin trimax's for sure, the choice is what motors or what motor and twin output gearbox. obviously the faster the RPM the faster the boat will go. but i am new to small r/c boats and i don't know what the equipment id capable of handling

I have built no boats larger than 45" so my personal knowledge is thin for that huge boat. I also have no idea of your expectations for the boat - speed, run time, cost, etc. All that aside, I would guess that twin large motors similar to the Neu 2230 running direct drive on 10S would work. with the 2230/1Y-725Kv motor the on the water rpm would be in the 25,000 rpm range, so with props like the Octura x465 speeds could be in the 55-60 range - in theory. I don't know about the efficiency of 65mm props on a 1.77 meter monoplane, the theory may not translate to the real world. By going with the lower Kv of the 2230/1.5Y-485Kv and 70mm L&R props for example, speeds could -again in theory - be in the 45-50 mph range - much more reasonable IMO. Amp draw would also be lower. The higher the amp draw the higher the heat and stress on the electric components, and the shorter the run time.

I would not even consider gearing. Today's BL motors can be had in a wide variety of Kv (rpm/volt) and it is best to choose a large format motor and the Kv you think you will need. I hope someone with more experience in these large boats chimes in.....

I would check with graill as he has experience with large hulls and what it takes to get them to go. Here is a link to his twin cat the Platinum Princess ...
