Chine walk DF33

I finally got to put this boat in the water and run it without something breaking . I'm running a cut down 447/3 to a 445/3 ,boat is fast and corners well . The problem is it chine walks badly down the straights . What are some cures for this problem as this is my first mono and any help would be great .

The modified prop may have more lift, raising the hull too high out of the water. A lower lift prop could help. So could raising the strut to settle the hull deeper in the water. The boat chine walks because it is balancing on the sharp keel. Any small disturbance can start the rocking.

Well I'll try an X642 and see what happends . I really don't think any X series prop are lifting props . It's a place to start ?

When you cut down an X-prop's diameter you are usually removing some of the cup which reduces the lift. Unless further modified, any X-prop with a reduced diameter will likely have more lift than an unmodified prop. Raise the strut to settle the hull down.

Move the weight forward. These boats need the CG more forward than some other Monos.

Tried moving it back and it didn't help . I'll try it but think Fluid has the answer .

I'm going to order a 1614-15-65/3 from ABC Props . Hope it works as these are not cheap .

Watch the heat with the ABC props Bill. They load up the motors allot more than the Octura's. What part of VA you in??

just curious, but what is your power setup? I don't see it in the posts. And how high is the stinger from the bottom of the hull? And where was your CG?

Fluid knows what he's talking aboutm but some of the basics have not been discussed... Obviously a smaller prop would most likely lower the hull and slow you down a bit making it more stable. Lifter too. But the basics would be helpful to set up a base-line. Angle on the stinger too... I found that you really have to find the sweet spot for each prop combination: CG, prop, stinger height and angle all play in.

Seems to me that since you are still dialing it in, the prop choice might not be the main issue.

Bill, I'm current Capitol RC'er. You've got to come up and see some of the old gang next year, maybe even race with us. We've got FE's integrated with the nitro classes now. Allot of the old gang is still racing. Ferrette, Finch, Tyndall, Anastasi. The club isnt nearly as big as it was after Vulcan Lake was lost and with the crappy economy. But we're turning it around.

Back to your chinewalk...I would try and move your cofg FIRST....up to 27% of the overall length of your hull...

Next race is @ Queenstown, Md ( Dist. 12 non points race) Sept. 21- 23... if you are not planning on racing and would like to just show up, we would love to see you there!

Did you lose the parking lot or the lake . Boy it's good to hear from all of you . I really do miss the good times . Getting back to the DF33 ,it's got a 4082-1600kv Lep on 6s , t-180 . I'll get it sorted out . I've got a lot of good tips to try . Tell Anastasi Bill McCay says hello

Fluid you were right . I raised the prop and the more I raised the less chine walk . It now is chine less. And it really likes the cut down 447/3

Glad you got it sorted out Bill. That Fluid guy knows some stuff.

We did loose the parking lot about five or six years ago. A bus company leased it and fenced it up but they went out of busiiness. Fairfax County Schools now rents it for their bus driving school. I hooked up with a teacher from one of the local high schools who is big into rc and heads the engineering club. We're going to try to get the kids into boating and this may possibly open the door to get access to the parking lot for at least a couple weekends a year for racing. Everyone that raced at that site wants it back.
