Jam nut and bullet nut fastening a prop?

    Hello Guys,

I just upgraded my Revolt 30 propeller and also it's prop shaft. The upgraded prop shaft came with a "jam nut" and a bullet nut. Where should I install the "jam nut" and what is it for? I thought the bullet nut will do it alone .

    Thank you

Why is the jam nut better than the bullet nut? I thought the aquadynamics of the bullet nut would work better having less interference/disruption on the prop's propulsion cone...

        Use a Nyloc Nut
the Bullet nut will look a lot better but when your walking around trying to find your prop after 5 minutes then ill be laughing at you, not with you.

Even if I use blue loctite on the bullet nut? What about threading the jam nut between the prop and the bullet nut (w/ loctite)?

Some people do that, just because they want the bullet nut on there.
The entire nut likely isn't submerged anyways when the boat is on plane and the water is so disturbed already it won't affect the speed in any noticeable way, there's much better ways to go faster.
If you want it for looks, go for it, the only time I've ever lost one was a super off balance shaft (straight shaft) and oversized bushings.
Definitely use BLUE loctite on there, you might even want to do that on a standard nut to be safe.

1- Go to Home Depot and get a bunch of nylon lock nuts, or some zuber nuts from a supplier.
2- Stand on the shore and throw the bullet as far into the pond as you can.
3- Install locknut and run the boat with the warm fuzzy feeling knowing your prop won't end up on the bottom of the pond!

Those things are horrible! And make absolutely no difference in running, It's running in a pocket of air behind the prop so the shape will have no effect what so ever.
Save it maybe and use it when the boat is on the shelf on display, but IMO you shouldn't store the boat with the shaft installed, should have been removed and dried after you were done running anyway to avoid rust. I wipe mine down and just lay them in the hull until next time, then they get lubed and reinstalled.
You can get a fist full of locknuts for a couple bucks, I replace them as soon as they are too easy to install and remove. Cheap insurance for the prop that you have either a good bit of money or time into.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

I also ordered the updated shaft which came with a jam nut and bullet nut. These should be used together, not one or the other. Tighten the jam nut to the prop and then hold the jam nut while you tighten the bullet nut against the jam nut, it acts as a locking device. Or, you can do what the others suggest, use a nylon locknut instead of the included jam and bullet nut.
