    X670 Castle 2028 10s need for speed

almost done with with Phil Thomas Lobster Tail. Castle 2028, Hydra 240hv, 10s5000 mah.

detounged, and heavy back cut X670

light boat, probably 10 pounds all up.

is the the right direction? shooting for 80 mph.

    any thoughts on the prop?

That is probably too much prop to start with, in a properly rigged hydro it should be good for low/mid-90s. I'd start with an x465 or x665 to be safe.

What are the brand and "C" rating of your packs? 5000 mAh is not a lot of capacity for 80 mph, what use will the hydro see?

zippy flight max 30C-I think. I'm out of the country today.

the x670 is a big prop but i was hoping the detounge and 1/8' backcut would unload enough to let it rev and not cause a melt down.

this is a toy for the backyard lake/display for my office/noise maker to irritate neighbors

the lobster tail seems to be a smallish boat compared to many 1/8th scale hydros, I haven't weight it but it think 3# of battery, 3# of 2028, 4-6# of boat, so it's pretty light.

With 30C and only 5000 mAh of battery I'd not start with the 70mm prop. What you were "hoping" for may not happen with that cell setup. It's your boat....

You also need to get better grade batteries. Some 65c packs will help out alot with the equipment.
I have some packs for sale at a reasonable price. performancerclipos.com

Sounds like you are running 1p...........gonna last about 2 minutes at most, plus will strain the batteries horribly. The setup you posted will pull 225+ amps constant easily and your batts can only provide 150a based on what i have read.

You really need a 2p setup with 10,000 mah or you need 50c+ for 1p setup minimum!!

For 10 cells i would recommend no more than an x460 to start with.....................

The X670 will work for a 8S set-up with that motor, but I can almost bet you will cook the speedo running that motor on 10s1P with an X670. If you want to stay with 10S try a X457/3 first.

As a reference I run a 2028 in a 48" gas thunderboat. On 10S2P I was running a X457/3 with speeds in the low 70's. I switched to 8S2P and an ABC 2716 15 Deg and ran the same speeds maybe faster. Just my opinion, but that motor really likes 8S.

it is 10s 2P. does this make a difference. is the x670 a bad idea regardless? i will try to find the 665/465 local. do I need to back cut these props?

Ok, so you're good on the batts at 10s2p...................but...................I would not run anything larger than an x460 or x457/3. The 47" mono in my signature below swings an x457/3 or an x460..............i kinda switch up every now and then. Even with those props it pulling 200-210 amps constant.

Today one of the FE Hurricane monos in our club topped 75 mph spinning a modded x462 with a 750 Kv motor. He runs 10S2P with 5000 mAh cells, nothing melted down, all seemed well. There is no need to spin a 70mm prop!

                        x665

i bought a X665 as it was the only prop available local, thoughts. i originally was going to run (4) 5S 5000mah 30c Zippys, then decided saving 3 pounds by only running 2 was a better idea, opinions are welcome. if 2 are only going to last 3 min i may try to float all 4.

                        would you cut the x665?
