    Prop for Capricorn 54

Recently my son broke the prop on his capricorn 54. Ive called all around, even the manufacturer. They told me the part has been discontinued. If anyone knows where to find one, he and I would be very happy.

how bad did he break the prop? If you could measure it from tip to tip, or even one side of it we might be able to recommend something.

From the looks of it the capricorn has the same exact motor and speed controller as my Marlin Cruiser (made by compass boat models) so the prop may be the same as well. I will measure mine and get back to you and give you a suggestion.

Ok, just measured my prop and it is about 1.3-1.4 inches from tip to tip. My proboat shockwave prop is the exact same size. I was going to just send you one since I have a few, but it doesn't fit being the shaft on the Marlin is larger in diameter and has a larger drive dog.

So it will need to be modified. A prop made for 3/16 shafts is what you need, however they don't have a prop small enough in that size shaft. So your best bet is this one here:

      http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...Plastic+Series

the one on the very bottom the y534 is the one you need, however you will have to drill out the hole in it just a very tiny amount for it to fit over the shaft, and then file the area where it meets the drive dog so the opening is large enough to fit over it.

Or here is the proboat shockwave prop I was talking about which is another option if you want to try that one

This is all assuming the prop and shaft on yours is the same as on mine, but I have a feeling it is, and that prop I put in the link is real cheap...I would pick up a few of them.

Hope that helps. I am going to modify my proboat shockwave prop as well in the way I mentioned as my marlin prop is pretty banged up and could use a new one.

VP. thanks for the info. I dont know if he has the old one still. I do know that we tried using a plastic prop from traxxas, but the pitch is going the wrong direction. I just switched the motor wires. It works ok, but the prop wash pushes the boat in the other direction, which make the boat only turn one way. It was worth a shot... I will look at the props you suggested, and measure the prop and shaft diameter. Thanks again bud.

          No problem

I actually just got done modifying mine. I just drilled out the hole one bit size at a time until it fit over the drive shaft.

For the part that fits over the drive dog I don't have a file, so again just use drill bits and drilled across it until it was large enough to fit over the drive dog. It doesn't fit all the way over it due the the prop's opening being shallower, but it fits over enough to get the nut on the end and snug it up. Just took it for a test run in the pool and it works great.

Sweet, your on it today. I just ordered the prop from e-bay....we'll see how it works. hopefully I can swith the wires back, so the boat will handle properly. Do you know if the direction of that prop is counter-clock wise. the one on the boat now is turning clock-wise

ya that proboat prop from ebay is a counter clockwise prop..which is standard for props on most all boats. Hopefully your boat ran the same prop as mine does and it works out for you. Let me know how it goes!

the prop didnt work as well as we thought. It cavitated bad and the boat went really slow. I think it might need something bigger with more pitch. I have a metal 3 blade, we'll try it out...who knows might work awesome.....hopefully the unemployed drunk fisherman isnt there this time..

Well that's too bad it didn't work out for you. On mine it worked, but I did see it was much slower than before, but I wasn't sure if it was the prop or my battery but didn't have time to find out as weather was moving in. After your update I am sure the prop slowed down my boat as well too.

Looks like I have to start looking for a different prop.
