    B&S Of Props

Anyone have any good tip's or tricks for thinning the blades of props you are Balancing and sharpening? How far do you go with the thinning?

I, too, would like to know. Did you ever receive an answer to this, Jim?

Hmmm... Well I'm going to research this for the both of us. I'll post my findings, as I come across them.
        Thanks for the reply,

Still searching. Here's a video on the general subject:

The narrator does suggest to thin it " like a knifes edge".

I need to make a handle like that BW. I just finished up a pair of ABC 2016/3's.I just thinned as much as I dared and now I hope they don't fold up.I would think you could go by weight for a given prop.Just thinkin here.

I got a file handle and then pounded brass rod into the handle and attached a drive dog to it

How thin is a matter of how much power you expect to put to any given prop. The ideal answer is as thin as you can make it and and not fold it under load. A P-ltd prop can be thinner than a full P prop. You can also go thinner if you harden them after all the hard work is done.

I thin and rough balance my props on a set of modified power tools. They are most definitely NOT OSHA approved, I'm not showing any pics. You can do the same work with a dremel tool and some time.

A nice wedge cross section (think of a knife blade with camber) is what you're aiming for with most of the prop blades available (disregard for the ABC chopper series).

Well I believe I found out how thin is too thin today. One of my ABC 2016/3's blades layed over a bit on me.I did end up with one prop 2 grams lighter than the other.I guess that was the too much. Now I have to decide what to do with it,buy a replacement and start the one over,or mabe I could straighten it and cut it down a couple mm and then it may hold up? Any ideas anyone?
