Grafted on, and an epoxy coat for final fairing. First the hatch mold will be pulled off, and a hatch layed up. Then a flash mold of the full deck, to cast a part for the deck plug. That part will get rebated and recessed for the hatch, then the working mold cast off of that.

It'll get wax tonight and I'll lay-up a test piece. That piece will be shaped and used to scribe the mold for trim lines.

I been keeping an eye on this also, inspired me to dive deeper into working with carbon. Let the fun begin. Be a bit before I am at his level

                Nice cloth.

I layed up a carbon hull last night.

                    It's turning out well.

Got the deck mold cast, polished & waxed, and one layed-up.

Transom and seam molds possibly to follow...

Because the stiffness of the carbon cloth will not want to remain in a non-flat shape during a wet lay-up, a little trick was employed to stop that.

I mix up some resin and let it sit till it gets like honey. Then the tricky areas are masked off, and some of the resin is applied to that area. I let it sit even longer, till I can push the dry cloth into it, and not have it self-lift off. I'll keep checking in on it, and give it a rub down to make sure it's in place, within the 15-20mins longer drying time, to make sure the resin locks the cloth in place.

Then I wet out the whole thing and roller it, then let that cure for about an hour+, then stick the second layer of dry cloth in that. Afte 20mins, wet-out and roller and done.

I've used your trick before, but to better understand your application... you only applied resin and let it tack along the thin outer perimeter strip between the two strips of masking tape? There was no resin applied anywhere else in these first two steps? When I did something similar, I wetted out the entire surface and let it tack. While it kept problem areas from lifting, it made laying out the large piece of cloth difficult and any attempt to reposition pulled on the strand pattern. The perimeter method will definitely prevent that from happening again.

Yes, just the strips between the mask on the radius.

If the whole thing has a layer of resin, whatever bubbles are trapped are covered by the thin film, making it harder to correct them. When just wetted and rollered, and surface bubbles are open, and easy to fill.

If the case is you have a surface with many silver bubbles under the clear layer, just scrub the whole thing with a stiff wire brush, to open them all out. The mix up some resin, let it cure for a 5-10 mins, then rub it into the surface with your bare finger (it can feel the exact amount of resin, too much or too dry), like rubbing oil into wood. just fill the pinholes and scratches. Then sand that with 320/400g ready for propper finish.

It's really just hand lay-up practice for me. This boat having a pretty weave look is of no concern, as it will be painted (bottom will be clear).

Been a bit slow. On second week of passing #2 of 3, 6mm-sized kidney stones. First passed 3-years ago, now #2 is coming down. Any hoo. Deck is ready. I forgot to account for the flood chamber dam on the hatch-lip, so a seperate piece of plate was added. It will be tacked to the hull soon, then reinforced around the seam. Battery tray, esc-mount installed

Bad news. My kidneys are really clogged & failing. Surgery soon.

Good news. Motor mounts are coming along. Alu-tape on surface, waxed/pva'd. Epoxy mixture built up aroung threaded inserts. They will then be released and shaped, then covered with a layer of carbon cloth. After finishing, aligned and bonded to the hull floor.
