    Proboat Blackjack and Impulse 9's

My buddy and I took our New toys out for their fist run this weekend. We both have 1 of each. None of them made it past about 4 minutes of run time. I have 4 batteries and he has 2 batteries. All were charged with the charger that came with them, and all were charged till the chargers went from Red to Green.
Really expected a few more minutes. Anyone else have these boats, and can offer any input? I have found batteries that have 1600mah instead of the 260mah, but even though they are supposed to fit, they look way to big in the picture. Anyone try these?

The chargers that come with the boats are absolutely worthless. If you plan to stick with the Nimh, get a better charger such as the Duratrax Onyx 220 and set the charge current to 0.2-0.3A and you'll get better results.

Or you could also go lipo if you have a lipo charger. I started using Admiral 2S 350 mah lipos in both my Blackjack 9 and Impulse 9 and was very pleased with the speed and run time. Took some doing but they do fit. Another thing is these were only 5 bucks each. The only thing I had to do was to cut off the stock JST connectors and solder on EC2 connectors.

One thing to consider is the ESC's in these boats do NOT have a LVC so it is very important to check the voltage of the batteries periodically while running to avoid discharging the battery down too far and ruining it.

I will try one of my good chargers at 0.2 i didnt know that a stock esc/receiver would handle the lipos. i have since found a exact fit battery on ebay that is 1600mah but they want $21.00 each. This is the description NEW 7.2V 1600 BATTERY FITS PRO BOAT MINI CATAMARAN
Found the battery you described on HobbyKing, Turnigy Nano Tech 350 mah lipo for $8.22

That should work too although from what I've heard about the Nano-Tech's has been less than favorable. Most of the complaints are usually about the batteries puffing up after just a few charge/discharge cycles.

The ones I used are from motionRC.

        $3.99 each.

Do you have a part number, and do they fit easily? I assume this is the one

Yep, that is the one and they do fit. Takes a bit of arranging of the wires and the water cooling tube in the Impulse 9 and I bent the excess portion of the push rod that extends out of the servo arm downward towards the arm so it would not rub on the battery.

Other than the plug change as noted, nothing else is required.

If you would like more run time and speed, I would suggest going with at least 5000 mah 25C lipos or better.
The batteries you are currently using are too small and could possibly lead to ESC damage.

I don't think a 5000 mah lipo would fit in these little 9 inch boats.

It would be really awesome if it could be done though. That thing would run for days.

My apologies. I didn't see they were the smaller boats.

I bought the Hyperion 320Mah 2s lipo and it fits perfect. It's even shorter than the stock battery. Same issue though, just had to change out the connector which is easy to do. My stock battery charged on a high quality charger still sucked. I get about 10 minutes of run time with the lipo. I just need to replace the prop now, as the stock plastic prop likes to cavitate during a hard launches with the extra power.

I'm not sure if they still have them available, but Flightpower had some good 1300mah packs that would work well for this purpose. We used to use those packs in small 14-15" riggers. I believe they were the EonX-Lite series and were rated at 25C continuous. That equates to 32.5A continuous which is certainly respectable.

Also, several years ago, I purchased some Hyperion G3 CX 1100mah lipos. They sustain 25C per manufacturer's rating and I certainly pushed them beyond that while I was testing a very small model. They might be an option as well. As I recall, they could be charged at 5C, but I personally never charged more than 2C on those lipos. They still survive today and seem to still put out decent power.

                          Hopefully this is helpful.

I have one of these. The battery that fits is smaller than a 5 stick pack of gum. I doubt you'd get a 1300 battery in it
