    coupler questions

I have a couple questions regarding micro couplers.

    1) does anyone know the shaft size on the ose outboard motor?

    2) where can I get 2 mm shaft to .098 cable (1/8) couplers

    3) does anyone know of a good 24-26mm x 35 in runner motor with a 1/8" shaft. I used to use castle 26mm 4600kv but they are discontinued and I can't find old stock anywhere (looking for 3 or 4)

    Thanks

    Hey guy,
AQ has an optional motor for the GP-1 & MS, 28-35-2600Kv - http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXDSEC&P=Z - max amps is 35A, so you can probably get away with a 35a Seaking.

Tower has them on sale for $29.99, down form $43.99 on 04.09.2015. Last time they did this the price bottomed out @ $26.02 for a day or two then jumped back up too bout $59.

Here's a 28-35-2700Kv option... http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXLWY0&P=7 - question is: do you want to pay 2x more $$ than the AQ for an extra 1100-rpm's? The good news is that like the AQ, it too is easy on ESC's, 15A continuous & 35A surge. So a 35a Seaking should work fine.

Here's a 28-36-2700Kv option... http://www.e-fliterc.com/Products/De...rodID=EFLM2005 - VERY NICE motor, got to see one at LHS - perfect fit for PB Mini-V, BUT, it likes amps, like 34A continuous (42A surge), so your gonna need at least a 50A speedo. It's also 2x the $$ as the AQ.

All three options have 1/8" shafts - that should make coupler selection a bit easier.

I know which OB unit your talking about, I looked into using one myself for a project I was thinking bout doing. If you get one of the above motors, 2S would be the most I would run it at - that's 21,840~23,680-rpm's - 2s off the charger = 8.4v

Couplers... check fleabay, plenty of Chinese / Hong Kong Vendors have various odd ball size couplers, designs vary from crappy to very nice.

There's also plenty of SS u-joints, this is the only "from 2mm" one I could find... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-jo...item418a2a676a

I discussed making spacers in post #3 of this thread... http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...-40mm-4s-motor - in case you find yourself doing a DIY custom setup.

    Batteries...
I'm using these... http://www.ebay.com/itm/261758825597...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT - offered $8.99 - they took it. Did a 2nd order for 2ea, same offer, same results. Only LiPo's I can find that'll fit the PB IM-17. Perfectly balanced & 15~20mins runtime, nuff said.

Here's the 35C version... http://www.ebay.com/itm/1500mAh-RC-B...item3ceee9f140 - check out there FB's, plenty of posi's from happy buyers like me.

Check out Gens Ace, several models look exactly like the Floureon's, only diff is the label. I've found several other brands with that exact same packaging. Welcome to the wonderful world of REBRAND'ing.

Sorry for the long post, rather cover all the base's in one shot & be done with it.

    Good luck with your project.

I appreciate it all. This is one of my old micros, it's a mhz gecko. That's the set up I'm trying to get again. I managed to track it down and buy it back but also have a brand new hull coming and a tunnel in the mail. It used a castle 26mm 4600kv on 2s (Around 36k rpm on small modified prop). That motor had 1/8 shaft so couplers were a dime a dozen. I'm not scared of 2 mm shaft because I relieve the prop ant let it spin so strength not an issue. I just can't find 2.0mm couples.

The castle motors were discontinued, I can't find old stock or I would use that. The hull is only 13-14" so 28mm motors are to big. I'm considering going with a 24. I would go 20x40 but once again they all have 2 mm shaft unless I spend almost $100 bucks for the tenshok (minicat) which I refuse to do. Plus I had bad luck with them in the past. I built one with a neu 1105 and it flew, but once again they are $114. I think the hobbyking 24-35-4600 would work. I'm trying to make 3-4 of them with all the same stuff to get people into the micro when we play with our other boats

26mm can... wow, that's an odd size, haven't seen (or heard of) any of those.

As mentioned, have a PB IM17 that I'm working on. Very tight under the hood, so been checking out 20x40's & 24x45's. Leaning more to 20x40 bcuz 24mm coolers hard to find. Tryin to keep the KV rating in the 2600~3000Kv range, for bout 22K~25k rpm's on 2S.

Anyway, this one of the motors I've been eyeing... http://www.ebay.com/itm/LEOPARD-RC-M...item3f3cbb5ba7 - has 2.3mm shaft, not 2.0mm. 2.3mm lot more common shaft size, so easier to find couplers.

          BUT, since you mentioned wanting 4600Kv, how-about a 24x36 4500Kv for $47 ??... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Leopard-Moto...item1e98feeb90 - USA seller. 2.3mm shaft not 2.0mm! Think that's about as close as your going to get to a 26x35 4600Kv
Leopards website for that motor... http://www.leopardhobby.com/proviewe...37&gid=74&pt=3

And for the budget conscious we have a 20x40 4450Kv with 2.3mm shaft for $24... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Leopard-LBA2...item20f9bd540e - USA seller - Leopards website... http://www.leopardhobby.com/proviewe...37&gid=73&pt=3

Again, I suggest Fleabay for couplers, there's jillions of them, literally. Most of my searching has been SS u-joints cuz of the Mini-V's outdrive. Replaced the prop shaft with Octura so I can run all standard 1/8" smooth bore props.

            http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...?prod=gnd-4195

These water jackets work good. I don't know on a 20mm but they fit the 26 good and tight.

26 was a common motor a few years back. Big block for 1/18 cars. I got a bunch of them on clearance from castle for about $25. Ran rc18t's. I had one left and was perfect. I'll check out those motors u recommend. I just know that boat flew. I have had a bunch of geckos and that was the best configuration. The 1105 was good to. Like I said, just want to build a few with cheap hk radios for the guys to play with at 1/2 time.

              Ya, they were $25 bucks.
From my experience, the micros like rpm and small props over low rpm n 30-32. The bigger props upset the hull. I have always liked 27 (even cut down) on mini-v, rios, these.

...micros like rpm and small props over low rpm n 30-32...
THANK YOU for that info!! As U know, recommended rpm's for sport boats is 30k tops, that's why I have been aiming for mid 20k range.

Mini-Cat USA use's 4-pole 20x40 3200Kv in their mini \ micro boats, that's what got me looking at that size. Watched the vids & noticed those boats really hull the mail, BUT, there well designed & built so they can handle it.

Mini-V's are not known for there handling, add the outdrive & running a high rpm motor is probably an invitation to disaster. Don't feel like trying to re-engineer the boat, so the OD stays - with the improvements I've done. Added AQ MM TT\TF's to calm down the bouncing & better handling in turns, but haven't a chance to take 'er for a run since.

Props... For the first couple runs ran a 30mm prop bcuz it was the smallest I had. Motors ran hot (w/Floureon LiPo's), so got a set of 1/8" props off eBay (27mm~35mm), but it took a month for them to get here, normal is 9-days. So haven't had a chance to run a 27mm yet.

After reading this post, think I'm going to stock up on some 27's - wish they would make those CNC aluminum props in this size. Those be perfect for mini boats.

IM-17 much better design & build quality than Mini-V. Doing brushed upgrade first to establish baseline, that should help in picking out BL parts. Come with water cooling so motor upgrades lot easier. Nuff room in front of the motor for a 35A Seaking. I'll do a thread after first test run.

                        Regards,

Tenshock do a few CNC alloy 2 bladed props under 30mm. 426 and 428 normal and reverse rotation, dog or threaded, for surface drive. 27x34mm, 27x36 and 29x34, 29x36mm for submerged drive, all threaded, all normal rotation only.

Thanks Paul - but where do you get them??

Already checked MiniCat USA (before previous post), smallest = 32mm dia.

I've been googling my fingers off looking for 27's - even before your post. Here's best results I got for TenShock... http://tenshock-motors.de/Prop-Schra...iun-prop-CNC_1 - as you can see, 34mm is smallest.

Also tried fleabay (past & present), smallest is x430 (30mm x 36mm)... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Atomik-CNC-A...item5d57b5daf3 - lotta Chinese/Hong Kong vendors have that size, but have to wait up to 30-days. Atomik = 5-days max.

OSE has x430's, smallest he goes. Steve does have S&B Octura x427's, but there $37 a pop. Way too much for a budget mini\micro build.

Thanks for the input - I'm wide open to any more suggestions.

Your tenshock.de link is for 3 bladers which do start at 34mm, click here for the 2 bladers, which do start at 26mm. Heath's Models in the UK also stock Tenshock props, but you have to phone or see them at the races as they are not on their website.
