Newbie to boats. Need expert help spending money please.

    Hey everyone

George from snowy, cold Maine here. A little background. I have been into all forms of RC for over 15 years. I have hpi bajas, giant scale gasoline płanes, brushless płanes, dabble in Helios etc.

Recently due to a an issue with a purchase I was given a 200.00 credit to tower hobbies. I need help spending it along with a little more added from my pocket. I figured "Get somthing I do not have or would not typically get". A boat is the only rc I have never had. So why not?

I have been doing alot of research and reading.
I am very interested in the Atomik Barbwire. Quick, self righting, ok size, affordable. I want to get 2. One for myself and one for my father.
I need EXPERT opinions. Neccisary mods, spare parts, setup, a stock equivilent metal prop. Spare parts to have on hand if any besides a couple of props.

I want us to enjoy these together and not have to work on them constantly.

So far In my towers hobbies cart.
    Two barwires rtr
    Grim reaper grease
    Hatch tape

    Thanks all
    George

For smaller water those are good choices, I wouldnt do a whole lot of tweaking, run them as they are and sometime down the road you may want to mod them. They are "fairly" maxed out on speed as they are...............
NEED PARALLEL CONNECTORS?? QUALITY 5.5MM, 8MM, 8 AND 10 AWG, GET THEM HERE: http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...est!&highlight=

Any need be mods though that need to be done? Hardware changed out, leak able areas etc.

They get the frying/quoting ESC sorted out?

        Thanks

As with any RTR, check all the screws/bolts are done up tightly and apply threadlock if locknuts are not used. Give anything glued in a good tug to make sure they applied sufficient glue in an appropriate manner at the factory.

George, I'm right there with you... having fun with this snow? I'm in Portland, and its getting real old!

Anyway, where are you running the boat? and you say you have brushless planes now? what batteries do you have sitting around? Just asking as the barwire though fun is small, depending on what lipos you already own their might be better options boat wise that might not cost you much more in the long run... also a lot of the other RTR's might come with radio gear that can be used down the road... the aquacraft models that come with the Tactic Radio many use those radios on all sorts of boats....or if you don't need radio gear the surgecrusher PNP they stock for $249 is a bigger boat that might give you more grins... anyway let us know what support equipment you might already own i.e. batteries...

Hey. Nice to see a fellow mainer on the forums.

              My batteries range from 3s 1500mah 20c up to 3s 2200mah 35c
I will be running on the river and lakes.
I want to get two one for me and one for my father. Two of these are affordable.
The self righting feature is a must, makes life easy.
If I could sell a couple of the rc płanes I have for sale it would allow me to have more choices.

I guess I really concerned with, is the new 30amp esc in it up to the task or they still croaking? Same with the rudder servo.

lol, what are you selling for planes... not that I need anymore as I have a pretty stuffed hanger already, but you never know... where is your location?

For the packs you have on hand, I hate to say it but the barbwire makes sense...

gotya... I was hoping they were brushless planes, and I'm more of a 3d hound (extras, caps, sukhois, MXS, etc) as I like to fly wherever I can... all those planes require a bit more space to fly, and being in Portland I rarely have it without a trip.

If I remember right when those first came to market there was alot of talk of weak ESC's, think that applies to most RTR boats regardless of brand / model.

Think the consensus was that a 35A Seaking would be a good upgrade @ affordable price. However, Kintec sells the new Version-3 60A Seakings for only $9 more. If space permits it seems like that would be the better choice.

Metal prop would probably also be a good investment. I'm sure there's plenty of info on this forum regarding size(s).

Last but not least... regarding the snow... yeah I know it sucks now, but at least your lakes will be full come summer. We got ZERO snow this winter, the lake I goto will be a mud puddle by June
