Hi to all I am new at this forum , but not to rc boats. I just picked up a new Tenshock mini Eco. I was reading how fast it is out of the box and how well it handles. Well it does handle great i must say, but the speed is way to slow. My guess is under 30 mph. People were saying out of the box 45mph. I did run it in rough water for the little guy but did stay on top of the water and never got over 30 ish. love to try another prop but I see no one makes any . I am using a three cell battery 2200. any ideas ? thanks Brian

A submerged drive mono is always going to be slower than a hydro given similar gear, there's just no getting around that it is the slowest drive type and hull style. They have the best handling though, and quickest self righting too.
I don't know who told you that, but 45mph is very unrealistic for a Mini Eco, even a top notch full size Eco is under 40 MPH in race trim, they look fast and get round the course fast because of their awesome handling and acceleration.
I suggest you change your driving style and run a smaller course, the Eco course only has 30 metre straights with 120 degree turns.Paul Upton-Taylor, Greased Weasel Racing.Comment

Tenshock Motors are pretty good motors, despite being made in China they are better than most, if you want better you will have to pay a fair bit for a Lehner or Neu.
I don't recall what KV the motor that Jim supplies them with in the USA (are you in the USA?), but I do recall that it is different to the ones Allan supplies here in England, you may be able to prop up a little or get a higher KV motor for a little more speed.
If you want much more speed you will need a bigger higher KV motor (unless you are willing to have limited runtime to reduce heat), but as the boat is designed for only 150 watts it has a straight shaft for efficiency and lifting much of the hull out the water, if you put much more power into it you will need to replace the existing drive arrangement with a flex or bent wire shaft closer to parallel, or there will be no hull in the water and it will be uncontrollable.
The Tenshock Mini Eco ARTR is pretty well optimised for Mini Eco racing, and it would be much easier to fit out a bare Kukurelli, H&M, Toysport or Asylum Hulls etc Mini Eco hull for speed than it would be to pull the Tenshock apart and refit it, optimising it for speed. Even if you were to take the trouble and go to the expense of doing so, it will still be slower in a straight line than a Mini Hydro with the same electrics due to the nature of the hull type and drive system.
I didn't advise you to change your driving style rather than the boat for no reason. if you want a fast small boat i suggest you buy a JAE Minisprint from Zipkits, set it up as the instructions say, but with a metal rudder bracket, and it will handle the biggest motor and ESC you can fit in it.Paul Upton-Taylor, Greased Weasel Racing.Comment

Are you sure you are getting full throttle from your transmitter!? Go into the settings and increase the travel to maximum on full throttle! That could be your problem Spektrums seem to be the most suspect in this regard.Mini Cat Racing USA
