    Theory on 60amp esc blown

    Here it is.

I was using a thunder power 2250mah, 65C constant 3S lipo with an Atomik Pro 60 amp Brushless Watercooled esc.

    As calculated: 2.2 x 65 = 143amps

Too much for the esc to handle right?

    1st run was glorious.
    2nd okay

A battery is only going to supply as many amps as the load will draw.

The info that would be most helpful for us to help you out would be your boat set up (hull, motor and prop).

It is the Atomik Barbwire with stock brushless motor 2950KV using aluminum prop from HK.

The esc is under warranty. I'm just wondering if it is replaced with a new one should I even bother putting it back in.

      Sell and buy another possibly.

How does that HK prop compare to the stock one? Even though you doubled the amp rating over the stock ESC if you over prop and strain the motor you'll see big amp spikes and that could have toasted the 60 amp unit.

Just a quick search and read.says these are overhearing motors on s/b x432 props and this is a x435 sized prop and with the bigger capacity Lipo and longer runtime I believe its just overworking the.motor creating heat degrading efficiency and spiking ape causing you esc to go maybe kick down to a 432 and watch temps

            Thanks,,

I've tried to understand issues from reading all the info. elsewhere about this boat.

I'm coming close to getting all this..It's so different then rc cars.

            ..x432 ordered.

I tell you what though. The first run was so insanely fast...I'll miss it.

i use a this on a x435(cut down and s/b) in a minicat catamaran and its super fast for about 2 mins or less with 4s good quality cells, so it can be done provided your willing to kill some electronics but when watched closly super fast . Just an fyi , if you want speed be willing to pay $ run time or reliability

dont know how much experience you have with boating but ask my friend (jessej) screaming speeds come with screaming consequences. nothing wrong with a couple failures but dont want you to be turned away from the hobby based on not knowing everything you could. People here can help you. The best saying ive seen here is something like be fast be reliable be cheap , pick 2

Ive been having fun with micros and I have a bby racing Micro patriot and its sick. Ive got some cheep Chinese copy of a hacker in it that's roughly 4300kv I run it on 2s 2000 mah 20c lipos from venom and its way too fast for its own good. My esc is a mystery 30amp. But I think the last time out I may have hurt the motor. I think it had a bearing go out not 100% sure. It got put off to the side.

These barbwires aren't really designed to be crazy fast but if your willing to put the money into it. Id start looking into a more efficient motor and esc combo for running faster speeds. Fyi I feel most micros run better with 2s lipos setups then 3s. Just my $.02.

                    All great information!
My experience with boats is 1/10.

I have been told the setup with the barbwire is sensitive to weight. I thought that meant sensitive to losing self righting but
I guess it meant added weight puts more strain on the motor etc.
I'm not concerned about the budget but I don't want to empty a load of cash into this vs. say a minicat eco 16.7" which
really seems like a solid stock setup.
When I ran the 1300mah, 30C, 3S Venom with the Atomik 60 pro marine amp. I would get cogging. It ran for 30sec. then would cut off
sit for a few seconds and then go for another few sec. etc.
Now thinking about this...that new prop could have been causing lots of drain..resulting in the above cogging.
After putting in the 2200mah, 65C, 3S it had no issues other then this currrent mishap.
It is at the hobby shop now being looked at. I just don't have time to fiddle with it..busy at work & don't want to lose this summer runtime.
I'm dedicated to having a boat and maintaining it.
I don't know if a 2S would work with my current esc.
I never put in the stock Atomik esc because of all the posts about it blowing on people.
Hopefully that new prop will lessen the issues with the strain.
The cost of a new motor/mounts & turnigy marine 80amp is going to be in the 180+- marker when all is said and done.
The cost of a new mini eco is 212 not incl. shipping.
Maybe best to use the barbwire as a retrieval boat.

Got word back from HShop...Esc was blown...
Going to switch out the 35mm prop to the Octura 30mm along with the esc/hope for the best..and never apply throttle while sub'd.."like I did".
Thanks to everyone here for the input.
