    Who's got the smallest rigger!

Who has the smallest micro rigger? I would like to see photos, and vidio if possable, of the inside with everything instaled. And some running data such as run time, estimated speed , battery size, motor kv and esc, servo size, receiver make and model.

I have been trying to design a thin, lean looking rigger on a micro size, under 19" long, but I'm finding it very difficult to fit the components I want in the space of a tiny rigger. I want to see how the pros do it. Please post your photos.

I have no photos or data, but the smallest I have seen which ran well - not all do - was the 16.5" JAE Mini Outrigger from Zipkits. http://zippkits.com/~zippkits/index....fe54790e36c3f0

Not me, I have seen much smaller but I do have the JAE Minisprint that Jay mentioned, which is under the 19" you mentioned. We have a Mini Hydro class here for boats under 450mm (17"22/32), I bought a minisprint kit which is advertised as 17" but built to the instructions it is a little over 18", I guess they don't include the ski in their measurements, I cut the tips off my sponsons to bring it down to a legal 448mm.

It has a Mega 16/15/3 which is a speed 400 size motor (28x36mm) weighing 76g (2.68oz) with 6 poles and 3 turns giving 3000KV, I run it from a Castle Creations Icelite 50 with no cooling, power comes from one of 2 batteries a 110g (3.88oz) 20-25C 3s 1500mAh which I completely empty and don't last very long so I buy cheap hobbyking ones or a 140g (4.94oz) Hyperion 35c 1800mAh pack which I only use 1500 of so lasts ages, power goes down a .130 flex with 4mm-1/8" stub to spin an Octura x427 which I detongue and backcut in order to get the 5 minutes runtime needed on 1500mAh, the rudder is a Chinese 75x20mm waterpickup one cut down to the pickup making it 61mm (2"13/32) overall with a 40mm blade, of which 1" is below the ski, the servo pushing it is a Hitec HS-A5076HB I have probably tried a dozen different microservos in my minis over the years and this is by far the best I wont be trying anything else anytime soon, it is all controled by a Futaba FASST R606FS which I soldered short servo extensions to then encapsulated in electronic grade silicone sealant.

I typically get around 18 laps on the Naviga oval which has a 60m straight with 5m radius corners on each end.

The Minisprint is quite heavy for a Mini Hydro and is definitely not the fastest in a straight line in clam water, but it does turn better than many, and if it is rough it can cruise past the faster boats.

I have no idea how fast it is, nor do I really care, laptime is what matters to me, but if you want more speed at the expens of runtime or with a bigger battery I have tried it with bigger 1/8"props, the little Mega is happy swinging swinging them all but the boat didn't like them all:-
V935 stock, very fast, but with hideous prop walk no good for anything.
V935 cut to 32mm and detongued, quite a bit of cavitation on acceleration and still some prop walk but controllable this time, just as fast as at 35mm, probably good for SAWs type running with slightly bigger rudder.
X632 detongued, my favorite go fast prop, not quite as fast as the V prop, but no cavitation and superb handling mean it would be very suitable for running sprint style ovals.
X435 detongued, stupidly quick acceleration that you can't use out of the hole, better acceleration out of the corners if you lifted off for them but with this boat you shouldn't have, not quite as fast as X632.
1432 stock, did quite a convincing impression if Tigger from Winnie the pooh bouncing along on its tail, it could probably be tweaked better but as X series run so well I didn't bother trying.

All these photos are from when I first built it before any mods, it was on 2s then but the Mega 16/15/2 motor looks identical to the 16/15/3 I use now except it now has a metal water jacket, that is a Castle Phoenix35 pictured which was well up to the task but I wanted datalogging, the Ice 50 is smaller but fatter and sits vertically just to the right of where the 35 is in the picture, the 3s packs are the same weight and roughly the same size as the 2s 2100mAh pictured, soldering extensions onto the RX when I waterproofed it meant that the battery can go alongside it and now resides right back against the servo, the rudder is shown full size here, but is not needed (unless you want to run the V series prop).

A recent graph for a race running my current setup.

Haven't run this one yet but had one exactly like it 3000kv outrunner 25 amp esc on a x435 cut to 32 mm on a 1050 mah 30c easily 30mph but at 14" on room for GPS but rumdog and hotwater have them also and can latest to.there speed. Btw the were called renegade by zippkits

My micro designs always end up being too wide in the tub. Im hoping i can get the width down to just wider than the motor.

Hi Joe the tub does not have to be a rectangle either. How about a tube?

That is good thinking but there is down sides to a tube shape. The stuff that goes inside is mostly rectangular shaped. also the rounded surfaces don't mix well with water.

I would exercise caution about going down near motor width for a tub, you had better be sure exactly what gear you are putting in and that it is up to the task if you are going smaller than 40mm/1.6". After trying several I would not want to be tied to small form factor 9-15g micro servos.

Tubes are very good at not giving lift, and by far the fastest model boat I have seen used a tube for a tub, but personally at the speeds I want to travel I want some lift from my tub, and a rectangle on its side fits the bill there as well as having the lowest CoG.

I agree with both of you guy's.
Just thinking out loud I have been accused of that before. I always go back to the low AERO drag of WWII tear drop fuel tanks that ran @ Bonneville Salt Flats. I want to learn Solid Works and will but need a better laptop and spend some time. Small Rigger (or any boat) inside area also will heat up the air inside quickly. So many things to try yet! Ha Paul great Rigger BTW

Missed this thread when it was active somehow, but then it seems the older I get the more I miss....

Here's a couple of pics of one of the smallest production riggers I've seen. It measures about 11 1/2 inches from sponson tips to the back of the rudder and appears to be more on the toy end of things. I'm a bit averse to taking it out of the box and getting it wet 'cause they are getting hard to come by..... probably runs on the toyish side of the performance spectrum too!

The cigar boat, though not very micro at 24 inches, is a good example of your line of thinking, Mike. It's a cf layup based on a Top Flite P-38 belly tank extended in the middle with a flat bottom. Worked very well and held the NAMBA M2 SAW record way back in the round cell days.

We need to put Darin's current m2 power system in the old cigar tube boat.
