Funny story about my Barbwire today

I ran the barbwire today to show my wife how fun it is to bash around. I was telling her about how it will sub itself under certain conditions and that sometimes it stays under just long enough to get nervous and then it pops back up. Well, I got a good sub out of it, the boat dove in hard and a second goes by, another couple of seconds go by and my wife says "uhh, uhh, it's not coming back" while I'm laughing saying "just wait". A few more seconds go by and I'm starting to realize that it was not going to come back up. Played with the tx a bit to see if I could see any ripples or anything where it was and nothing. After several minutes, we were discussing whether I should swim for it or just chalk it up to a loss and I said "screw it, it's gone. I'm not diving in this crap for a toy boat". As we were getting ready to walk away, I was just playing with the wheel and throttle on the tx- not for any reason, just messing with it. Out of nowhere, up pops the boat and it just takes off like nothing happened! We pretty much both said "holy $&!%" at the same time lol.

This thing was literally under for a good 5 minutes, no sign of it, no ripples, bubbles, etc. It must have gotten stuck in weeds or something and when I played with the tx the second time, got signal and broke itself free. Pulled it out to check for water inside and there was literally only a few drops in it! Amazed the heck out of me!

The more I use this thing and the more I abuse it, the more I realize just how much fun it is! I've got some nice FE boats but this little thing is just a blast to run! The whole time it was under, I was thinking "hopefully there will be one on ebay when I get home" lol. I really wish I didn't put off buying this boat for so long, it is a blast.

I really think I am going to order another one when Atomik gets them in stock. Just to have a backup in case this one does meet it's demise.

Sorry, it got a little long-winded :). I'm really liking this boat though. While I love my bigger FE boats, this little bugger is a blast! Just chuck it in the water (literally, I just throw it in from about 10' away) and run the crap out of it. With my "good" boats, there is always a concern of flipping it, sinking it, blowovers, etc. With this one, it doesn't matter- it self rights, takes a beating and if it does get destroyed, I'm out less than the cost of a motor for some of my others! It will never take the place of the others, but it is a blast for a quick evening escape to the lake!

This looks like a fun little toy, I might have to pick one up.

It's a blast. I was hesitant to get a plastic boat as it just screams "cheap toy" to me but am glad I did. The boat is very nicy finished, even clearcoated over the decals which shocked me. The transmitter is lacking in quality and feel, literally feels like a cheap Walmart toy. I immediately planned to swap it out, but it's functional and hasn't given me any issues, has good range, etc. so I decided to just leave it for now. At least this way, others can use it while I run my other boats instead of then all being on the same tx.

Every minute of that story was worth reading. I had something Very similar happen to an N-1 mono at the 2010 nats! Boat stuffed in practice and stayed down for like a minute. after like 4 minutes, we all started to walk away when the puppy suddenly pops back up!

            Thanks for sharing!

So then you know how surprised I was when it popped up! There was a quick splash as it popped up and the boat just took off (finger was on the trigger playing with the radio). I know this is nothing limited to the barbwire, it can happen with anything, but it still was quite surprising to see it come back up after all that time!

The barbwire is a ZANY little boat that can thrill anyone from the seasoned boater, to an 8 year old kid. Have you checked out the little STRX-9?
Perfect little glove box/briefcase toy. The barbwire is wildly popular and Many of them are at our lake at least 15, and NO I didn't push 'em on these guys. in fact, they had 'em before me : )

Yeah, I am 40 and the whole "cheap plastic boat" thing turned me off of the barbwire for a while. Glad I finally caved and got it!!! It is just a blast. Heck, even doing flat out stupid stuff with it is fun- one of the places that I run it sometimes is pretty weedy along the shore line. With my other boats, I have to walk through it to get the boat in and out of the water. With the barbwire, I just chuck it from about 10' away or so to get it in the water and when I'm done, I just run straight towards the shore at full throttle and it ends up just making it past the nasty stuff lol.

It really is just a lot of fun for not a lot of money. I have been eyeing the strx for my son as well. He is 5 and already amassing a pretty cool collection of boats (really daddy's way to get more boats without mommy getting mad lmao)...

Wow! Just curious if it popped up mid race or not? That would screw some racers up!

No, it popped up just as a new heat was about to start!

Not pressurized ( I get the humor!!), it was actually full of water, but still had enough flotation left!

Lol, that's great. Definitely a WTF? moment! I took the boat out to the new house today- on a deep water canal with a HUGE dock :D and had a blast with it on the canal! It was quite windy and there was a pretty decent chop (way more than I would have used any of my other boats in!). This little thing handled it like a champ- flipped, rolled, jumped, subbed, you name it- it happened, and it just kept on going! Can't wait until we are all moved in there and I can spend more time ripping the boats around the canal!
