Castle 0808 motor in a Gecko

    Hi all,

My Gecko is swimming with the fishes at the moment....it sunk and I can't find it so I'm thinking about building another one.
I was wondering if anybody has tried this motor http://www.castlecreations.com/products/0808.html in any mini boat yet? I have this motor in one of my cars and it screams! I hooked it up to my eagle tree logger and saw amp spikes in the low 40s. I think the 4100kv on 2s would handle an x427? Any thoughts?

The only problem I see would be the cooling jacket, i think this one would work http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...?prod=gnd-4195

Dangergus, I have an update for you. The cooling jacket I linked works well with no leaks. I have to make a better coupler for the motor since this motor has a 2mm shaft. Ill let you know how it goes.

Thanks Rich. Good luck with the coupler, been there done that too many times. I think I ended up drilling my own on a few and also used K&N brass tubing as bushings to step up the shaft size. I just put a .130 flex in my White Gecko and ended up using an Octura collet which seems to line up everythhing better & took out most of the vibration.

Good luck and post a vid when you get it going.

I might be able to get a vid. I'm machining a bushing to adapt the 2mm shaft to the 1/8" to .098 octura flex hex to the motor. For some reason it was unbalanced and snapped the motor shaft. I made a few more and will test to see if it works when I get the motor back from Castle. Until then I put an ammo 28-35 5100 kv in and she runs awesome!

Well I got the motor back and the adapter made. It wasn't as fast as the other motor I had though (I tried a 28-35 3900 kv ammo). Weird since its 4100kv though. The temps weren't even warm and the run time was almost 2 min more. Ill try propping this up and see what happens.

                Lost my 1st Boat...

My turn Rich - just lost one of my Gecko's at the local lake. It stopped about 30 feet out then took on water and to the bottom it went. I stuffed the nose with bubble but def not enough, and just installed this outrunner on 2S and a Quark 33 ESC.

Was hauling good for the 2 minutes i had it going...

Funny you tried this motor, I was looking at it on this website http://zippkits.com/~zippkits/index....roducts_id=360

That sucks man! Did you go take a swim for it??? That's how I got mine back. Anyway I put and x430 with the 0808 motor and now she moves! Everything comes back in the 86F temp range after 5 min run on a 2200 2s pack. Its way to bouncy with this prop since more hull is out of the water. I'm going to make some adjustments with the x427 to see if I can get some speed out of it.

I hope you get your boat back, going to stuff more foam in mine!

Yeah, I had high hopes for that 4400 motor and it seemed to go good but not noticeably faster that my old 3900 Turnigy inrunner. My next step 'was' to change props up from my X429 and see if I could get it to wake up. Oh well - and no I didn't swim for it. This lake is a slime pit full of of Duck turd and algae and almost no visibility. I have my limits so I made a little rig from a coat hanger and hooks and skimmed the bottom a few times. All i got was a bunch of weeds and an algae eater so far but I might keep trying.

Bummer! Mine sank in murky water too, I tried a heavy lure and a casting net but couldn't hook it. A spectator jumped in for me and got it.
