Thanks alex. Just trying to use a few bits i already had in the shed. Ive never used anything but flex in the past, with octura flexhexes. Mabee id be better off trying a wire drive? (zero experience with them) what sort of coupling do i use for wire? The boats these are going in are my own "micros" built years ago and originaly intended for speed 400 brushed motors. Will be trying some other motors later, with a more conventional shaft size hopefully! Ill keep jeff in mind tho thank you Jim.Im confused..... no...wait...mabee im not?Comment

whats the best way to join wire to propshaft? Do i just solder? What size wire would i use? Cheers.Im confused..... no...wait...mabee im not?Comment

Personally i use Loctite 603 on my wire drives with the hole drill nice & deep into the stub, i dont solder as the wire & hole are small you wont get a good solder joint down in the hole & obviously you cant solder stainless if thats what your using. Most use piano (carbon spring steel)wire for wire drives depending on what your using it in their are .062" & .078" & theirs also 2mm with couplings to suit these sizes.Comment

Thanks for the info Bill. Ive now decided to use a 1/8" strut setup on this boat with a .098 flexshaft. Now need to find a 2.3mm-.098" coupler.... D'OH!!Im confused..... no...wait...mabee im not?Comment

Yeah i prefer flex hex too. Im in a bit of a pickle with this boat. Think i may do away with the leopard and its problematic 2.3mm shaft.
Martin, can you suggest a few micro motors with a more conventional shaft size?? The boat is a 15" scratchbuilt cat. I already had the 4mm flexshaft and strut, might be better to downgrade to .098 flex & 1/8 strut instead.... Open to all suggestions, as this is my first brushless micro boat. Its been on a shelf for years and i really need to get it wet!!! Thanks.Im confused..... no...wait...mabee im not?Comment

1. they hold far better, I've never had one come loose - can't say that about the set screw type couplers.
2. because I completely agree with martin - see post #12 above.Comment
