what will a 6l geared 1:2 pull amps wise? ran on 4s

it has to be geared there is no possibility of it being ran 1:1
    thanks.

That is like asking "how long is a piece of string?" it depends on the load. The gear box only reduces the output rpm and increases the output torque, allowing you to use a larger prop. Just like 1:1, the amp draw is goverend by prop size, boat size, setup, etc.

If you mean what is the maximum amps it should draw, the maker says 1800 watts. So 1800/14.8=121 amps nominal. I'd use 100 amps max.

its a 38mm jet drive i think possibly 42mm will be running 2 of them(possibly) in a light boat

I have little experience with jet drives in model boats, but they usually require high rpm to operate efficiently. Gearing the 580 down 2:1 seems like a mistake, but I am guessing here. What is the operating rpm range recommended by the jet manufacturer? Will you be running two sets of 4S packs? What cell capacity?

A "light" boat tells us little - is it 4 lbs, 10 lbs? Is it 24" long, 48" long....? Hull type?

13,000 - 15,000 is optium 17,000 is max it will take

the boat is 1,3 meters long and about 4 - 6 kilo and packs im not sure about maybe ill put 4s2p kokam5000 on each drive so 10,000mah 4s

jet propulsion has a constant loading on the motor
If the jet as 15-17k max rpm.. what did they suggest for power requirements ?
The bigger/heavier the boat.. the higher the load on the encapsulated prop ( no way for it unload like surface props sucking air )

ps.. Ive had a few, and some experience here.

I'm in the process of building a jet boat. I've got a 540 sized 9xl which I have the gear reduction setup done. The jet I got is a KMB 40mm power jet. I'm going to adjust the gearing to get the amps were they should be. What are you going to use as a gearbox?

"vvviivvv", if what you are saying is that the jet drive will not take more then 17k RPM then you'd have a slow boat regardless of motor/prop choice. Keep in mind that there are other variables to factor in... the efficiency of the motor prop slip, , voltage drop, efficiency of the jet (which is quite low) among others.
You are probably looking at way less then 17k RPM delivered resulting in maybe not enough to get up to plane...
That's just my opinion... but I find it nice that you are trying.

the boat currently has twin 700bb turbos and planes there running on 9,6v each 4000mah nimh packs the impeller i want to have spinning around 15,000 through the gear box...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiyglzC9nF4 thats it running 1 12v lead acid battery powering both motors it runs considerably faster on nimh but im sure it has more to give

this is the same boat on Robbe Roxxy BL 3650 2100kv on 4s with the same gearings i have

i don't think id be blasting around at them speeds all the time just it would be nice to have straight line speed.

an 8xl might be a option but i know them to be ballistic fast so i might drop down one
