You don't need a Neu or Hydra to be competitive... and you don't have to spend a fortune on batteries either... You just have to pick a reasonable class...

For example... Find yourself a nice 26-27" Mono hull, get a Nemesis 6L from Steven, and pair it up with a Hydra 120 esc... Then, spend $130.00 on a PolyRC 30C rated 4500mah 2S1P Lipo pack and come to the races! Or, if you can find them, get a pair of 20C rated 4350s or ??? and parallel them up... all the better and likely about the same price these days... (I paid $75.00 a pack for my PolyRC 20C 4350 cells...)...

Same thing goes if you want to build an N2-Sport Hydro...

No amount of equipment is going to make you as competitive as you'll get with time on the water in racing situations... A "rookie" with all the right stuff vs. an experienced racer with average equipment is a no-contest... You'd be supprised at how competitive one can be with just a basic setup that works WELL and that has been sorted out... You'll learn a hell of a lot more doing that than you will waiting for the high-dollar equipment... more actually, because going fast can be a frustrating experience, and costly, if you don't have a good grip on what you are doing...

So, NO MORE EXCUSES!! Get that boat onto a course near you NOW!!

got an example to prove the point. doug peterson gps'd his p=mono last sunday at 50.2 mph...last year with same setup and speed turned in a 5-lap time of 1:12.36 on the 1/8th mile oval. he only managed to finish one heat.
      note;
about month ealier in practice it blew off the water and tried to put a cell pack through the hull.

I guess that means you are not going to tell your oval speeds?

I would be more than happy to tell you... but it's not the kind of thing I record or pay attention to... In fact, I've only been to one race weekend where our club even timed anything, and that was the last one so we could test the timing system for the Nationals (starting TOMORROW!!!)...

I ran a 1:00 flat for 5-laps around a 1/10th mile course in my N2-Sport Hydro during that race weekend... That I do recall...

I also know that my N2-Mono (26" DH Mono) GPS'd at 45.6mph during an N2-Mono heat, while Brian Buaas ran away and hid with His N2-Mono (he's EASILY into the 50s...)...

Jay, Darin and Rex are dead on it here Reddy.
Anyone who visits the forums can read and see what setups are working.
It seems in my experience the new racers #1 problem is himself, not his boat.( It certainly was in my case):D
Most "sport boaters" are fine when they are just running circles with their buds, but then something happens when you use the word "RACE". Some forget that the throttle has more than two positions. Some forget that the race starts at 0, not at 1 on the clock. Some forget that you have to go OUTSIDE the buoys, and that you can't drive through them, or the competition.
All these things are corrected with experience and I would encourage ANYONE to go and enter the races, gain the experience. LISTEN to and learn from the seasoned racers, and have the time of your life. Every time you race you will learn more and have to "talk yourself down less". You wait for "your chance" to take lane 1, and don't get a DNF (did not finish) because you pushed too hard when you knew what was going to happen.
Guys, go race!!!!! Get past the nerves a bit, (they will never go away) enjoy the people and the rush of just being there.
Then if you need a better boat,or setup,..... you'll know what that is.

              Just my $1.00s worth.
              Good luck!!

Thanks, DS, you should have been a writer. That description of racing gets the adrenalin pumping. ha

and some of the best boats for learning are limited spec super vee, ls mono(19t), lso/lsh. most of the boats in these classes are relitively inexpensive and reliable. unlike the 50mph p-mono which went through nimh cells at a great rate(roughly 12 cells per heat/5laps)

I agree with what you are saying, but my problem is that I grew up with Muscle cars. I am building a 6 pole brushless cat on 24 cells right now.

The Dallas club is supposed to let me know when they are having another event.
