They allow the water to vent to the side, reducing the "suction" of the flat hull bottom surface to the surface of the water.

Yes you should. They look really cool, they can't hurt (unless you do em wrong) and did I mention they look cool? Also, real boats have em so therefore, you should have em on your boat. I put them on all mine (over 22") and I will be disappointed if you don't. (besides they look cool). You might get some better speeds also, especially on flat water.

So are you debating lift strakes too? or want just a flat ride pad? I bet Simon will chime in soon, I'll be curious to hear his take.

              Thanks for the intro Jesse.

I am no expert at all, just a serious question asker. Here is one of the threads that may help.

I am not sure if this is a good example but it is an old Kyosho Hurricane. It came with brushed motors and a 2:1 gearbox and ran on 2 six cell packs in parallel - I put in a direct drive KB45 on 2 x 2S lipo's in series. It went from 12 mph to 35 mph.

Good link Simon. So I will ask here since you are thinking of drawing up your own.

Missing topic from Simons thread: all steps parallel? or back one up some? (i.e. sitting on a table, the transom is up about 5mm - I will measure and give angles and pictures soon.)

My plans from Shockerman are flat on the bottom as seen in profile from the side. Whereas my Intruder has a slight rise in the last step aftward. This FORCES the bow up unless you have serious down pitch in your struts. I have still to try the full down but am not really understanding this design element.

Yes they are. I had to put them on as I am still using the original steerable drive and it tended to spin out.
