Rudder/drive setup?

I have noticed a lot of the really fast boats dont run a combo rudder/drive setup. Is there a reason for this? Are they less reliable?

The U-joints they use are pretty weak. OK for a brushed toy boat but not for brushless stuff in my opinion.
