Flex shaft size for a Mean Machine

Just got my MM from aeromarine and I need a flex shaft. Looks to have a 3/16 shaft, but what size is the flexshaft? And if you could point me to a link to an assembled unit, preferably in the OSE store, I would be much obliged.

Also, when cutting a flex shaft to length am I correct in thinking it should be soldered then cut? Or cut then soldered? I figured that soldering first would help with fraying during the cut... Also what should I cut it with, pliers or a cut-off disk on a die grinder/dremel?

I've always used the .150 cable in my MM, on my second year running on 8s lipo.
    Have yet to break one.

i could be wrong but I cut mine with the dremel and a cut off wheel and then solder it. Haven't had a problem fraying one.

Here is the octura cable/shaft I use.

How much power you gonna run. Hughey has a .187 flex that is super nice. I cut mine with a dremel and disk. Then i chamfer the end at 45 deg. No soldering for me. Never had a prob. without it.

Either of these will work for you. The Octura cable comes assembled or unassembled. I cut my cables with a dremel and then solder it. When you cut you the shaft allow about 1/4" gap between the strut and prop. You need to allow some space for the cable to wind up.

Many thanks for that info guys.

Since the ul-1 uses a .150 flex I pulled it out and gave it a try in the MM. Seems to fit well, bit too long but I can trim it down. Bustitup was selling a UL-1 shaft so I picked that up, 15 bucks seems like a good deal.

I have heard to leave about 1/2 the diameter of the prop shaft between the strut and the drive dog, I am guessing that will account for the flexshaft winding up? I never did this with my supervee, I may have been wasting some power there, huh?

Thanks again guys, I will post some pics when I get the motor mounted and get it ready to run.
