    shaft diameter on feigao 540xl

    Hi,
Just about to order my first brushless motor to go in a very heavy large fast electric hull. On the spec sheet it is listed as 5mm shaft, this is very important to me as I have a custom made gearbox, all fitted out to accomodate 5mm.I was just having a look on the feigao website, and the spec there says shaft is 3.175mm. Can someone confirm this please? on the OSE site it says 5mm. If it is 5mm diameter, is that the full length, I dont want a step up on the end!

    Many thanks

there are 2 types of Feigaos, the 3.175mm and the 5mm, just be sure to order the correct one.

Every XL Feiago I've ever seen has a 5mm shaft. Some of the smaller versions - like the S - can be ordered with 3.2mm shafts. Where are you ordering the motor from? The vendor can tell you what he sells.

Typically the smaller motors have the 3.175 shaft. The 540 series all have the 5mm as far as I know.

            OSE sells a 9L with a 1/8" shaft.

Hmmm, you're right! I think the 1/8" shaft is used more by the car guys with pinion gears. For boat use, we generally use the 5mm.

I have bought, used and twisted and 8XL with a 3.2 shaft, learned my lesson.
I would enquire if it is an XL with a 5mm shaft.

I want it from here, OSE, but Feigao have come back to me saying that 2 shaft sizes are available on the 540XL, you have to state which you want with the vendor, OSE state its a 5mm so I feel better about it now, however still trying to get confirmation that the 5mm runs all the way down the shaft.

On this boat, a 3mm shaft will bend.

If anyone has this motor, can you please check the back end,! if the shaft is visible and see if its still a 5mm??

                      Many thanks

Yes, it's 5mm all the way.
Feigao make the 540 range in S, L & XL with a 3.175mm shaft which fit their Planetary Gearboxes. The pinion gear in the boxes are a 3.17mm bore.
I'm pretty sure Steve only sells the 5mm shaft version.
                        Here's one of the boxes.
Feigao All Metal Planetary Gearbox for 540 Series 6.7:1 Ratio from manufacturer Feigao, in category Gear Box / Reducer, (Brushless) Motors & Accessories.

                        Cheers.

I bought a Feigao 9XL here on OSE, and it came with a 5mm shaft. BTW, the shaft does not come with a spacey where the grub screw tighten... You will have to dremel the shaft a little bit.

thanks for all the info. Here is the gearbox being used, currently 2:1, with the easy option of changing the ratio, this box eliminated the coupling, and the boat its in, so you can see the heavy lump I need to get moving fast!

Boat is not quite finished yet, fittings to go on, its going to be way over scale speed, but thats the fun!
