Hard case for lipos?

Hey guys - quick question here for a lipo newbie. Is there an advantage to a hard case for lipos in a boat? Do you still have to bag/waterproof them?

a mate of mine runs some hard case lipos in acouple of boats, only problem i see is they usally have some type of vent that can let water in and makes them harder to dry out if they get wet. i dont bag or water proof my batteries.
if in the odd occasion i get a small amount of water on them i leave them out to dry.
if some thing goes pear shaped and they get drowned i just cut the shrink wrap of dry them out and reshrink

You would also need to be careful of heat buildup is the case was small enough just to fit the batteries.
