i can get a brand new traxxas esc for about $100, retail is about $180.... really i'm looking for a performance gain, but nothing too radical, looking to spend about $200 or so.... i did already pick up soem Octura BeCu props, spent soem time sharpening, polishing, balancing, driveline has been upgraged to bearings.... i figure i'll use this villain for learning and fun, then upgrade to something fast...

i would suggest you use a single motor....youll still be able to go WAY faster than the stock villain speed and you will spend less than if you ran twins..
heres a vid of one on a single brushless motor

just so you know im not telling you what to do i apologize if i came off that way...... just trying to show you all the options......if you just looking for performance gains i would go with 2 19t spec motors with the gear reduction.....just watch your prop size and heat......with new setups start with a smaller prop and check temps every 30 seconds or so.....after a run if it stayed cool prop up and continue with these steps until you have found the best setup....60% of the time... it works every time!Comment

also make sure you invest in a motor with a metal endbell....plastic one will fail under pressure60% of the time... it works every time!Comment

all's good hammertime, i appreciate the advice, and your time, i'm new to boating, and especially fast electric boating! i may just go with something simple for this villain, i know i'm limited with the deep vee, but i figure if i like boating, which so far so good, i will get soemthing better and faster maybe this winter, for a winter indoor project....Comment

If you guys are interested, check out rcslot.com, it's owned and operated by a close friend of mine, great resource for rc products and slot car stuff, pretty limited for boat products though.... check out the blog, the T-Maxx on the blog is my creation, just sold it on ebay, gonna use some of the money from the T-Maxx for some boat parts...Comment

I have decided to keep it basic with this Villain. I just picked up some 23 turn motors. I'm installing a water cooling kit and the EVX esc. Then some good batteries. After doing some reading I have decided not to spend my money on this Villain. I want something faster and better. So I'm thinking of buying a better hull, maybe building a brushless setup. 50 mph would be nice. Any suggestions for a newbie to Fast Electric boats? I was checking out the Aeromarine Titan 33, seems like a great boat for the buck?Comment
