brushed motor question

im not very experienced in how a brushed motor works...and ive been wondering what exactly are brushes and how do they work?

The brushes are what the current goes through in the motor. As the motor rotates the polarity through the turns continually changes. Combined with the magnets this changing field is what causes the motor to turn. Here is a web page that describes it pretty good.
