    P-mono P-offshore

This may be a stupid question but what is the difference in these two classes, the saw records are like 24mph apart?

p-mono does not allow stepped hulls, oval course. steps and flat keel ride pads are allowed on the offshore boats, heats are 4minutes. section 28 page 7 is where the offshore rules start (namba rulebook). hth

The offshore records were all set with catamarans, which are considerably faster than monos for a number of reasons. Making a mono go really fast is far more difficult, even with three times the power of a cat. A stepped mono can be faster and more stable than a non-stepped mono, but steps are not allowed in the mono classes.

Got it, I knew cats were faster, but I never thought by that much!

Are there any classes were a stepped mono is allowed.

by definition a 'stepped' mono(meaning a vee hull) is a hydro...soo you could run it as a hydro in the hydro classes :). you can also run a stepped vee in the offshore class.

yes because a stepped mono has a multiple wetted surface. (for those who dont know). But wouldnt a hydro still have the speed advantage?

I would think the main advantage would be stability. balancing a vee hull on a 1/2"(or less) strip of hull can be a challenge :).

Thats true, funny how hydros are supposed to like "smooth" water, but it seems like my hydros like rough water and my monos like the smooth water.

thats because your hydros are slow and your monos are fast.
