Is it the Eagle Tree Systems that is the prefered data logging system to use?
It seems to me that it can log currents up to 150Amp.
Is this done by connecting the device in series with the motor wires or do they come as a clamp meter type unit too?
I would like to find something that could log up to 300Amp peaks if possible.

the eagle tree is inline between battry and esc, rpm,temp,speed,etc are all seperate devices that have a connection the same as servos and one end of the data logger has a seies of pins

Don't know if it is the prefered one but it's a really good one, I have the V2 and I like it, I plan to buy a V3 as it goes up to 150A versus 100A for the V2.
As Ozzie wrote it plugs between battery and ESC, it then records (you can set the trigger to start recording) Amps and Volts (and calculate Watts) and cumulative mA consumption, you can have additional sensor for temp, rpm, speed, GPS, an external display can also be connected on the field (better than having a laptop). the sofware (Windows only) is really nice, every recorded datas are viewable on a chart.

For the 300A capability you need a different logger see here this is the Seagull wireless version.

im going to need something that log around 200 amps soon too.

im only interested in volts, amps and speed. Any thoughts?

the ETTI is "only" 26V capable while the EagleTree is 70V capable, and I don't think you can add sensors!

there's a good solution with MGM ESC's (the one H&M sell) and their BlackBox up to 300A I think need to check though and $$$ required!

Eagletree are more versatile than you may think, they do a 300A 50V clamp type extender to plug into their units, they even do a secondary extender so you can record 300A, 50V/70V,as well as 2 temps and RPM for each side on a twin to make sure you have those props matched exactly, all with GPS on top for performance figures.

The 300A extender is about 2/3rds down the page ED66677 linked to earlier.

Or you could always go to the store here on OSE as you always get excellent support and at least you can talk with someone who knows about what they are talking about. Hobbyking on the other hand, all I can say is, I hope it works for you and if it doesn't......good luck.

Personally, I like to support the vendors who work hard to provide new products and also provide a service such as this forum.

I know what you mean, I too like to support vendors, when its economically viable to do it. I have bought stuff from OSE in the past, and I will again. Service was great, shipping took a little while, but everything I have ever shipped from the US does.

I also fly helis, planes and generally order all my stuff at once from HK to save on shipping.At the moment with the current state of the nz dollar (which is terrible) I am forced have to take the cheaper option (plus theres a new heli coming out soon i want)

thats 35$ nzd difference. in other words thats the shipping plus some gold bullets or something else. HK support have always been good to me, I have had a puffed lipos replaced (old hextronic one) and servos replaced and the more I buy, the better discounts I get next time, that is always a sweetener to me.

Also when I place at order at HK it gets here lightning quick, I ordered some bits and peices for a plane on a friday and it was on my desk on the tuesday ( from hong kong to nz ) which is outstanding

at this stage probably not, will go for the 100 amp version, and get a 300amp clamp

150 amp wont quite be enough for the 1/8 I will be building shortly, so thats probably the best course of action.
